The film has a decent first half and great second half. The first half of the film is slow-paced. On the whole Sita Ramam is a beautiful love story. The makers have spent very well on the film which is pretty evident on the screen. The second half of the movie is terrific, to say the least. The theme of the movie may not appeal to the masses. The comedy in the film looks a bit odd. The film turns out a bit slow at times making it feel lengthy. The music is very rich. The surprise package here is Mrunal Thakur. She makes a staggering Telugu debut. Afreen (Rashmika Mandanna) is a student president of Pakistan at a university in London. She takes up the job of delivering a letter to Sita Mahalakshmi (Mrunal Thakur) at the insistence of her grandfather’s will. Malayalam star hero Dulquer Salmaan is back with his second straight Telugu film Sita Ramam. Mrunal Thakur is the female lead.

PS Vinod, Shreyaas Krishna’s cinematography and Vishal Chandrasekhar’s music truly aid in bringing the world of Sita Ramam to life. Hanu does a good job of showing, instead of preaching, how irrespective of what god you pray to and what country you belong to, it’s only humanity that matters at the end of the day. What’s good is that Hanu tries his best to tie up all the knots, giving Afreen, Balaji and us enough answers, but that also means there are some questions that leave you wanting. But when she begrudgingly decides to deliver a lost letter to India, she’s transported back to 1964 where the poetic love story of Lt. Ram (Dulquer Salmaan) and Sita (Mrunal Thakur) unfolds. In 1985, Afreen (Rashmika Mandanna) is a Pakistani rabble-rouser studying in London who is set in her ways and harbours an intense dislike for anything and everything Indian. She might be from the other side of the border but her feelings mirror that of youngsters on this side of the border even today. Not everything about Sita Ramam works to the extent of making it a classic love story the makers wanted it to be. Yet, the earnestness with which they attempt to narrate a moving story of romance holds it all together. Certain beats of the story and some of the twists can be foreseen. The effort to make the romance appear poetic is evident from the time Ram embarks on a journey to meet Sita; the technical team and the actors pull all stops to present a charming, old world romance that can sweep someone off their feet. In another scene, when she is given a few references, with all the names pertaining to one religion, she asks in exasperation if there isn’t anyone from her community. It is not wrong to love your country, but you don’t need to harbour such hatred for a neighbouring country, a wise man tells a young woman in the film.

The film majorly rests on the good looks of its actors to make it tolerable. If done right, a single shot is enough to establish that. The back and forth conversation between the two wide-eyed young people is naive, uninteresting and feels overly stretched. The catch is, she hasn’t spoken to him in years due to a disagreement and finds out that he has passed away. The way the romance develops between Ram ( Dulquer Salmaan) and Sita (Mrunal Thakur) feels forced. Again, there is a catch: She has to first do an errand for him.

త్యాగం, ధైర్యం, దేశభక్తి, వృత్తిపట్ల అంకితభావం, సీనియర్స్ పట్ల గౌరవం ఉన్న పాజిటివ్ గుణాలున్న ఒక ఆర్మీ ఆఫీసర్ మన హీరో. ప్రాణభయం, స్వార్థం, జూనియర్స్ పట్ల అసూయ, కుళ్లుగుణం ఉన్న మరొక ఆర్మీ ఆఫీసర్ కూడా ఉంటాడు. వీళ్లిద్దరి మధ్యలో ట్రాక్ నడుస్తుంది. ఈ సెట్టింగ్ బీ టెన్ ట్రాక్ అయినా బాగానే ఉంది. బ్యాక్ గ్రౌండ్ స్కోర్ మాత్రం జస్ట్ ఓకే. ఒక పొయెటిక్ ఫీల్ ని మెయింటేన్ చేస్తూ సాగింది కానీ సినిమా లెంగ్త్ ఎక్కువగా ఉన్న ఫీలింగొచ్చింది. దానికి నేపథ్య సంగీతం కావల్సినంత బలంగా లేకపోవడం కూడా ఒక కారణం. సుమంత్ కి మంచి నెగటివ్ క్యారక్టరే దొరికింది. అతిథిపాత్రలో ఒక సీన్లో భూమిక కనిపించింది. పాకిస్తాన్ ఆర్మీ ఆఫీసర్ గా శరత్ ఖేదేకర్ ది కూడా కీలకపాత్రే. రష్మిక మాత్రం ఇన్నాళ్లూ తాను వేసిన పాత్రలకి పూర్తి భిన్నంగా కీలకమైన సపోర్టింగ్ రోల్ లో కనిపించింది. తరుణ్ భాస్కర్ మాత్రం తెర మీదున్నంత సేపూ తన హైద్రాబాదీయాసతో ఆకట్టుకున్నాడు. నటుడిగా బిజీ కావడానికి అన్ని లక్షణాలూ ఉన్నాయి తనలో. సహజంగా ఏ సినిమా అయినా ప్రేక్షకుల అటెన్షన్ ని లాగేసుకోవాలి. కానీ కొన్ని మాత్రం అటెన్షన్ తో ఓపిగ్గా చూస్తేనే బాగుంటాయి. అలా చూసేవాళ్లకి ఫీల్ గుడ్ సినిమా టైపులో బాగానే ఉంటుంది ఈ చిత్రం. దుల్కర్ సల్మాన్ తన క్యారెక్టర్ కి పూర్తిగా న్యాయం చేసాడు. ఈ సినిమాకి హైలైట్ అతనే. అతను తప్ప ఇంకెవరు ఈ క్యారెక్టర్ కి న్యాయం చేయగలరు అంటే తట్టడం కష్టం. ఇలాంటి సినిమాలు ఓటీటీల్లో పార్ట్ పార్టులుగా చూడ్డానికి బాగుంటాయి తప్ప సినిమా హాల్లో అంతసేపు కూర్చుని ఆస్వాదించే ఓపిక నేటి ప్రేక్షకులనుంచి ఆశించడం కష్టం. అంటే ఇలాంటివి గతంలో రాలేదా, ఆడలేదా అంటే విషయం అది కాదు. ఈ రకం సినిమాల్ని ఆదరించే ఆడియన్స్ ఎక్కువమంది ఇళ్లల్లోంచి బయటకు రావట్లేదు. కనుక ఇది ఓటీటీలోనూ, టీవీలోనూ హిట్టయ్యే సినిమా. పాటలు క్లాస్ ఆడియన్స్ మెచ్చే విధంగా ఉన్నాయి. "ఇంతందం", "ఓ సీతా" పాటలు వినడానికి ఇంపుగా ఉన్నాయి. ఎస్.పి చరణ్ గాత్రంలోని స్పష్టత ఎస్.పి.బాలసుబ్రహ్మణ్యాన్ని గుర్తు చేస్తాయి. మరో రెండు పాటలు కూడా వంక పెట్టడానికేం లేదు. రామ్ అనబడే ఒక ఆర్మీ ఆఫీసర్ కి, అతను కాపాడిన కొందరు వ్యక్తులకి మధ్యలో నడిచే కథే ఈ "సీతారామం". టెక్నికల్ గా తీసుకుంటే కెమెరా వర్క్ కి, ఆర్ట్ కి, కాస్ట్యూమ్స్ కి ఫుల్ మార్క్స్ వేసుకోవచ్చు. ఎటొచ్చీ స్క్రిప్ట్ లో లూజ్ ఎండ్స్ మాత్రం చాలానే ఉన్నాయి. రైల్లో సునీల్ కామెడీ అస్సలు నవ్వు రాలేదు. అలాగే వెన్నెల కిషోర్ కామెడీ కూడా అతికీ అతక్కుండా ఉంది. మిలిటరీ ఎపిసోడ్స్, క్లైమాక్స్, హీరో హీరోయిన్స్ మధ్యలో నడిపిన రొమాంటిక్ ట్రాక్ బాగున్నాయి. సినిమా ఎలా ఉందని అడిగితే వింటేజ్ కారు ప్రయాణంతో పోల్చి చెప్పొచ్చు. వింటేజ్ కారులో ప్రయాణం బాగానే ఉంటుంది కానీ, బొత్తిగా స్పీడ్ ని 40 దగ్గర లాక్ చేసినప్పుడే నీరసమొస్తుంది. ఈ సినిమా చూస్తున్న అనుభవమూ అలాంటిదే. ప్రధమార్థంలో చాలాసేపు కథ స్పీడుగా నడవక అక్కడక్కడే తచ్చాడుతూ ప్రేక్షకుల్ని ఒకరి మొహాలు ఒకరు చూసుకునేలా చేస్తుంది. కానీ క్రమంగా స్పీడందుకుంది. అంటే నలభై స్పీడల్లా 60 అయ్యిందన్నమాట. అప్పటికి ప్రేక్షకులు అలవాటు పడి ఈ బండి ఇంకింతకంటే స్పీడు వెళ్లదని గ్రహించి సర్దుకుపోతారు. "మహానటి" తీసిన బ్యానర్ కనుక ఆ స్థాయిలో ఏదో సర్ప్రైజ్ జరుగుతుందన్న అంచనాలు ఈ చిత్రంపై విడుదల ముందు వరకు మీడియా వర్గాల్లోనూ, క్లాస్ ప్రేక్షకుల్లోనూ ఉన్నాయి. ఇప్పుడవి ఎలా ఉన్నాయో చూద్దాం.
