2014 के लोकसभा चुनाव से पहले बीजेपी और जेडीयू के संबंध अपने-अपने राजनीतिक हितों के चलते तल्ख हो गए. बीजेपी ने 2014 के चुनाव बीजेपी ने नरेंद्र मोदी को चुनाव प्रकार कमेटी का प्रमुख बना दिया. जेडीयू ने इसके विरोध में एनडीए के साथ गठबंधन खत्म कर दिया. लोकसभा चुनाव में नीतीश कुमार ने कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी के साथ मिलकर चुनाव लड़ा लेकिन असफलता मिली. चुनाव नतीजों के बाद बिहार की सत्ता बड़ा उलटफेर सामने आया. नीतीश कुमार ने सीएम पद से इस्तीफा दे दिया था और जीतनराम मांझी सीएम बन गए थे. बीजेपी ने इस सरकार से बहुमत सिद्ध करने के लिए कहा तो आरजेडी ने जेडीयू को समर्थन दे दिया था और सरकार गिरने से बच गई. 2019 के लोकसभा चुनाव में बिहार में एनडीए ने जबरदस्त जीत हासिल की. 40 में 39 सीटें एनडीए ने जीत लीं. बीजेपी 17, एलजेपी 6 और जेडीयू 16 सीटें जीती थी. 2020 के विधानसभा चुनाव में भी जेडीयू ने एनडीए के साथ चुनाव लड़ा और सरकार बना ली लेकिन अभी डेढ़ साल के कार्यकाल में कई बार दोनों के बीच में अनबन होने की बात सियासी गलियारों में गूंजरी रही है. 26 जुलाई 2017 को नीतीश कुमार ने 20 महीने पहले ही बने महागठबंधन को खत्म करने का एलान कर पद से इस्तीफा दे दिया और अगले ही दिन जेडीयू ने एनडीए में वापसी कर ली और बीजेपी के सहयोग से नीतीश ने फिर से सीएम पद की शपथ ली. सदन में एनडीए ने बहुमत सिद्ध कर दिया. बिहार के 2005 के विधानसभा चुनाव से पहले जेडीयू एनडीए में शामिल हो चुकी थी. 2005 का विधानसभा चुनाव बीजेपी और जेडीयू ने पहली बार साथ में लड़ा और आरजेडी के नेतृत्व वाली यूपीए की सरकार को पटखनी दे दी. लेकिन इस वर्ष विधानसभा का चुनाव दो बार हुआ. पहले चुनाव में किसी के पास 122 का स्पष्ट बहुमत न होने कारण राष्ट्रपति शासन लगा और फिर अक्टूबर-नवंबर में दोबारा चुनाव हुए तो बीजेपी-जेडीयू ने सरकार बना ली. इस प्रकार बीजेपी के पहली बार समर्थन से नीतीश कुमार मुख्यमंत्री बने. 2005 का चुनाव आरजेडी लालू यादव की पत्नी राबड़ी देवी के नेतृत्व में लड़ी थी. पहले चुनाव में आरजेडी 75 सीटें जीती थी. जेडीयू ने 138 सीटों लड़ी थी और 55 सीटें जीतीं, वहीं बीजेपी ने 103 सीटों पर उम्मीदवार उतारे थे और 37 सीटों पर जीत दर्ज कर पाई थी. कांग्रेस महज 10 सीटें जीत पाई थी. किसी के पास 122 का स्पष्ट बहुमत न होने के कारण राष्ट्रपति शासन लग गया. दरअसल प्रशांत किशोर ने यह बातें सिवान के सर्किट हाउस में मीडिया से बातचीत के दौरान कही. उन्होंने कहा की बिहार की जनता ने एनडीए के नाम पर नीतीश कुमार को बहुमत दिया था. अभी जो भी सरकार है जनता ने उसे पांच साल के लिए चुना है. इसी तरह जनता ने पिछली बार महागठबंधन को चुना था लेकिन 2017 में नीतीश कुमार ने उसे छोड़ कर एक नया फॉर्मैशन बना लिया था लेकिन सरकार तो पांच साल तक चली थी. ऐसे में अगर मध्यावधि चुनाव होता है तो इसका बोझ जनता पर ही पड़ेगा. प्रशांत किशोर ने कहा की मैं इस देश का आम नागरिक होने के नाते कह रहा हूँ की अगर सरकार पांच साल के लिए चुनी गई है तो उसे पांच साल पूरा करना चाहिए. उन्होंने कहा की मेरी इसमें कोई भूमिका नहीं है, यह उनकी चिंता है किसकी सरकार बनेगी क्योंकि मैं न तो पक्ष में हूँ न ही विपक्ष में. उन्होंने कहा की राजनीतिक दलों का अपने विधायकों से मिलना को आश्चर्यचकित करने वाली बात नहीं है. जो हो रहा है उसे मैं बस एक आम नागरिक के नजरिए से देख रहा हूं और बिहार के लोगों से मिलकर जन सूरज के बारे में बता रहा हूं. बिहार की राजनीतिक गलियारों में हलचल बढ़ी हुई है. आने वाले वक्त में यह कौन सी करवट लेगा इसको लेकर कई तरह के कयास लगाए जा रहे हैं. इसी बीच चुनावी रणनीतिकार प्रशांत किशोर ने मुख्यमंत्री नीतीश कुमार को लेकर बड़ा बयान दे दिया है. उन्होंने कहा की अगर जनता ने आप पर भरोसा किया है तो आपको उसकी इज्जत करनी चाहिए. जिस गठबंधन के खिलाफ आपने लड़ाई लड़ी आज उसी के साथ जाएंगे तो बेहतर होगा कि आप फिर जनता के बीच जाकर मैंडेट लें.
