New Delhi: On the occasion of Muharram, stock markets will remain closed on August 9, Tuesday. Stock markets will be closed for three days in August due to market holidays associated with Muharram, Independence Day, and Ganesh Chaturthi. However, the commodity market will observe holidays only during the morning session, that is from 9.00 am to 5 pm on August 9 and 31. According to the NSE BSE holiday list 2022 posted on the National Stock Exchange and Bombay Stock Exchange websites, there will be a total of 13 market holidays in 2022. The Prophet Muhammad refers to this month as "the Sacred Month of Allah" and it is also referred to as Muharram-ul-Haram. Muharram, one of the four holy months designated by Allah, is particularly significant because it is the only month in which fighting is prohibited. The largest number of market holidays, which is three days, occurs in August. There were two market holidays each March and April, but only one in May.
