स्वामी प्रभुपाद का जन्म 1 सितंबर 1896 को कोलकता में हुआ था। उन्होंने भगवान श्री कृष्ण के संदेश को पहुंचाने के लिए इस्कॉन की स्थापना की। ISKCON को International Society For Krishna Consciouness और अंतरराष्ट्रीय कृष्ण भावनामृत संघ भी कहा जाता है। ISKCON की स्थापना 1966 में न्यूयार्क में की गई थी। और वहीं पर दुनिया का पहला इस्कॉन मंदिर बनाया गया। इसे हरे कृष्ण आंदोलन भी कहा जाता है। स्वामी प्रभु प्रभुपाद का निधन 14 नवंबर 1977 को भगवान कृष्ण की नगरी मथुरा के वृंदावन में हुआ। इस्कॉन की वेबसाइट के अनुसार, इस्कॉन गौड़ीय-वैष्णव संप्रदाय से संबंधित है। जो वैदिक या हिंदू संस्कृति के भीतर एकेश्वरवादी परंपरा है। यह भगवद गीता और भगवत पुराण, या श्रीमद भागवत पर आधारित है। भक्ति योग परंपरा के इन धर्मिक ग्रंथ की शिक्षा है करि सभी जीवित प्राणियों के लिए अंतिम लक्ष्य भगवान, या भगवान कृष्ण है के लिए अपने प्यार को फिर से जगाना है। इस्कॉन भक्त महा-मंत्र के रूप में भगवान के नामों का जाप करते हैं। और वह यह प्रार्थना करते हैं..
