Maharani 2 review: The second season of SonyLiv's political thriller is a marked improvement over the first, with stellar performances from Huma Qureshi, ...
But despite that, Maharani is among the better political shows in Hindi OTT space. Maybe that’s an indictment of the scene in itself but one can’t fault Maharani for being better than others. [Sohum Shah](https://www.hindustantimes.com/entertainment/amit-sial-sohum-shah-say-outsiders-have-advantage-of-rich-life-experiences-101660093593353.html) as former CM Bhima Bharti is one of the highlights of the show. And they are aided by a more than competent support cast, each of whom seem perfectly cast. Huma Qureshi gets lost in Rani Bharti so easily and effortlessly that you will struggle to notice the actor over the character. The dialogue is the biggest draw for me. But despite the over-the-top lines, the actors deliver them well, which is the saving grace for the show. The story is of how this tripartite struggle unfolds amidst dramas about reservation, demand for a separate Jharkhand state, and a harrowing rape and murder that shocks both Rani and Bihar. You can convey the brutality of a crime without actually showing it as Delhi Crime has proved. The set up is not unique, the twists are a bit transparent, and some of the reveals not as shocking. The writers manage that largely, barring a few lapses of course. However much the writers and actors try and deny the basis in reality, Maharani is a show that draws from real incidents and creates some gripping and engaging drama around them.
The Ravindra Shewale directorial has all the right flavours to make for a must-watch political thriller series.
Huma Qureshi has proved to be one of the most impressive performers in the industry. Huma's command of her character's body language, accent, and power-packed dialogue delivery is definitely praise-worthy and something that makes you want her on the screen all the time. The uneducated CM of Bihar is much more confident, politically correct and fearless. It is Rani who reopens the case and asks the law to investigate it again mindfully. Moving on, the current powerful woman of Bihar gets to deal with multiple disputes in her political as well as personal life, including communal riots and her husband Bheema's affair with another woman, respectively. After sending the former CM and her husband to prison on corruption charges, Rani Bharti seems to have become a naive political puppet turned social reformer.
Starring Huma Qureshi and Sohum Shah in the lead, the political drama directed by Subhash Kapoor is streaming from August 25.
In Inside Edge, it was a complete extension of how frustrated I was about my life as I was about to give up. I completed my post-graduation in business management, came back to India and joined the corporate sector. I am a spontaneous actor, so to let that go out of the window and stick to the written word, something changed inside me, craft-wise. Amit Sial: Not necessarily politics-based shows; I watch documentaries, which have a lot of learning. Navin Kumar is one of the most challenging roles I have ever done because it’s got a rhythm to it. Amit has moved from one web series to the next in the past two years at such a pace that he has now decided to take one thing at a time.
Subhash Kapoor's web series for SonyLIV stars Huma Qureshi, Sohum Shah, Amit Sial, Kani Kusruti and Vineet Kumar.
Dibyendu Bhattacharya’s Martin Ekka finally comes into view when a crime is added to the larger crime of hoodwinking the public. Naveen hires his own version of Prashant Kishor in the form of data analyst Kalpana (Neha Chauhan). Outraged by his wife’s perceived betrayal, Bheema works hard to regain power with the help of his factotum Mishra (Pramod Pathak) and brother-in-law Sanyasi (Kumar Saurabh). Maharani, created by Subhash Kapoor, is loosely inspired by the political churn in Bihar in the 1990s. Martin Ekka (Dibyendu Bhattacharya) would rather be playing Mark Antony on the stage but is instead plonked behind a desk, at the other side of which sits an unlikely empress. But as the second season of Maharani reveals, uneasy lies the head that wears a crown.
In Maharani season 2, Huma Qureshi, Amit Sial and Sohum Shah emerge as the three most important pieces on Bihar's political chessboard.
And that is the biggest takeaway from this SonyLIV show. The moments of her bonding with Rani are heartwarming. The layers of his character take the most time to be peeled off. She brings in the right amount of confidence into her body language, never going over the top. For the longest time it seems she is also watching the puppet show as an outsider, instead of pulling the strings herself. Political thrillers are one of the most popular genres on OTT, and Maharani is definitely among those that have managed to capture the audience’s imagination.
SonyLIV's Maharani Season 2 stars Huma Qureshi, Amit Sial, Sohum Shah, Vineet Kumar, Pramod Pathak, Kani Kusruti, Anuja Sathe, Neha Chauhan, Sushil Pandey, ...
The current season is better than season 1 in every way. Maharani 2 turns out to be one of the best political series in terms of explaining how the politicians play their dirty games. The trailer described Bihar in the best way possible. In season 2, Rani is more confident, and her lack of education doesn’t stop her from taking big decisions. Maharani Season 1 was about Bheema’s fall and how Rani Bharti became the CM from a simple housewife. Created by Subhash Kapoor, the second season is directed by Ravindra Gautam.
Huma Qureshi will be back with her portrayal of Rani Bharti for Maharani season 2. Check out all the details about its release right here.
