She-Hulk Episode 2: The Weird MCU History of Abomination and Hulk (Den of Geek)

Head writer Jessica Gao tells how the show landed on its meta Incredible Hulk reference.

Speaking on the phone to Jennifer, Bruce (in his Smart Hulk form) tells his cousin not to worry about it because, as he says, the fight with Blonsky was so long ago and he (Bruce) is “a completely different person now — literally.” Cut to Jennifer, who pauses, looks right at the camera, and gives us a little “ha ha.” Since we doubt that Ed Norton will show up anytime soon as an alternate universe Bruce, this is probably the best we’ll get. “That line was actually written by one of our writers, Jacqueline Gailes. When that is later combined with Bruce Banner’s gamma-radiated blood, Blonsky violently expands into the monstrous, reptilian, super-sized creature known as the Abomination. “It’s very in keeping with the meta-ness of classic She-Hulk,” says series head writer Jessica Gao when asked by Den of Geek about the reference. Desperate for a gig, she takes the job – and then finds out there are two caveats. Marvel have told us anything, it’s that the X-Men (or whatever name thay will wind up being called) are now a part of the MCU, following Disney’s 2019 purchase of Fox, which had dibs on Professor X et al. The conventional wisdom is that Jen’s new superpowered status will only taint juries one way or another, as evidenced by the case she was poised to win last week being nullified by a declaration of a mistrial. 25 episode, titled “Superhuman Law,” Jen Walters (played by Tatiana Maslany) learns that she is being let go from her job as ADA, in the wake of her “hulking out” in the course of trying a case.

She-Hulk Episode 2 Had Some Big Reveals—Here's What the Head ... (Gizmodo)

Jessica Gao told us about that big Hulk moment on the Marvel's Disney+ series, and tried to break down some timeline issues.

No matter the case, the scene does 100% let you know this is not a Hulk show. [a scene we see in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings](https://gizmodo.com/marvel-shang-chi-review-1847536024). Which doesn’t seem to line up with the fact that [we see Bruce Banner in the end credits scene of Shang-Chi](https://gizmodo.com/lets-talk-about-those-shang-chi-post-credit-scenes-1847614784), still with the hurt arm. We asked Gao about it and she says that despite it maybe not being clear, the timing does work out. And we also asked the bigger question: what’s up with Bruce now heading off to space? New characters and situations are introduced that not just explain where and when the show is happening, but tease what’s going to come next.

She-Hulk Episode 2 Might Have Teased a Huge Solo Adventure for ... (menshealth.com)

Bruce Banner could be very busy in the MCU. The Hulk is headed to the planet Sakaar. Here's what that could mean.

A continuation of the Planet Hulk storyline, World War Hulk is a 2007 comic book miniseries by Greg Pak. We know She-Hulk probably takes place sometime after Shang-Chi, since we later see the Abomination break out of prison and fight in what looks like the same arena from the film. In She-Hulk Episode 1, Bruce and Jennifer got into a car crash after a Sakaaran ship intercepted them on the road. The case is a conflict of interest for Jennifer, so of course she calls her cousin to smooth things over. As Bruce ends the call, the camera zooms out and we see he’s no longer in his Mexico hideout. That means the show is rife with opportunities for cameos, Avengers-related conversations (like the question of Steve’s virginity), and more.

It feels like we're building to the introduction of mutant superteam the X-Men, with teases in What I'm saying is, if you're going to do a Silence of the Lambs gag in 2022, it better be a really good Silence of the Lambs gag. But if we've learned anything from the frenzied predictions of Mephisto showing up in WandaVision, it's not to go speculating wildly about which comics characters are absolutely definitely 100% going to be in a show. Bit of an odd thing for the writer of a lawyer show to admit in public, but hey ho. Even with his role reduced, Roth brings a touch of class to the series. Let's talk about that Silence of the Lambs gag. He may be one of the people on the planet who can most closely relate to her struggles.
