Tamil star Chiyaan Vikram is all set to release his latest film Cobra, on August, 31st, and the film's first review is out now; read what it says.

After a long absence, we're sure the actor's fans will be thrilled to see him again on the big screen. As a result, Cobra makes his third consecutive appearance on the big screen. Cobra is Irfan's acting debut and Srinidhi's first in Tamil.

The actor spoke in length about his upcoming spy thriller, directed by Ajay Gnanamuthu, during the film's promotion in Coimbatore.

I take a lot of pictures and indulge in wordplay for the captions. It didn't matter how the remakes performed, but I was a tad upset that all the films were remade and there was nothing for me to do. I then decided to change the way I worked. I thought that was the first good feedback and I was happy. The director would take 6 months to write the script and I would spend another 6 months to prepare for my character. At first, I wondered how he would cope up with all the goings-on in the set, because he had no prior experience in acting and had never faced the camera. I think it will be worth the wait. He would always be on the phone and his communication would be pertaining to Cobra. I know there has been an immense delay in bringing the film to the theatres and I want to apologise to the audience for that. By the time I worked on I, the prosthetics became slightly thinner and became a tad easier to move your face. We had a healthy competition on the set to outdo each other. "We have never done this before at the ground level and it's nice to see the love and affection pouring in from everyone," says Vikram, on the sidelines of a press conference during the film's promotion in Coimbatore.

It is his acting that makes the movie bearable. That said, he has nailed a particular sequence in the second half which will remind the audience of Anniyan. Another major grouse with Cobra is that it is pretentious and logic-less. He is so skilful that he doesn't leave a trace, yet has contacts all around the globe (don't ask how! The answer is a big NO. Director Ajay Gnanamuthu is a promising filmmaker.

The ambitiousness shows off in the film’s attempt to push the scale in terms of grandeur, which is visible in most of the first half. Apart from Vikram, who shines in yet another hand-picked, the rest of the support cast barely makes any impact. Vikram plays Mathiazhagan, a genius mathematician who lives the life of a recluse. With the help of a criminology student from Chennai, Aslan finds out that a criminal named Cobra is responsible for all the assassinations, but his identity remains a mystery. For most part of the film, it’s a character that demands a restrained performance and it’s something that comes naturally to him. Ajay Gnanamuthu’s Cobra is the kind of film you want to appreciate as well as find faults with.

This non-linear approach and throwing bits and pieces of information hoping that the latter half will resolve all these issues is both a hit and a miss. Ajay peppers this film with a host of bright, bold, and interesting ideas, which don’t always hit the bull’s eye with their execution. Despite whatever happens to the host of other characters or plot points in the film, there is no doubt that Cobra is only about one man… He exudes manic energy that comes across as a case of someone trying so hard that it hurts to watch because his role is all fluff and has no substance. It is a role that seems to have been modelled by Siddharth Abhimanyu and Harley Quinn. It is a shame that Ajay didn’t really flesh out this aspect of his protagonist rather than just making it a simple gimmick.

Cobra movie review: A film about a globetrotting assassin with a deep fascination for cosplay would be a lot of fun to watch if made properly.

The film is trying to recreate the vibe of Dasavatharam, in which The writing is poor, especially when it comes to writing emotional scenes. And it sinks further post-interval and it never recovers its ground even in the climax. There is a lot of excitement in the air but can this rabbit be more than just an ensemble of pop-cultural artefacts? We don’t get a sense of the culture or the tradition that’s shown on the screen, as everything is overwhelmed by a deafening background score that overlaps with dialogues. The money is exchanged at a badly-lit parking spot in India to take out the king of Scotland, who is about to get married.

కోబ్రా పేరుతో ఈ హత్యలను చేస్తున్నాడని ఇన్వెస్టిగేషన్లో తెలుస్తుంది. విక్రమ్ పాత్రధారి కోబ్రా వరుస హత్యలను చేస్తుంటుంది. కోబ్రా హత్యలను ఎందుకు చేస్తాడు? కోబ్రా హత్యలను ఓ పాత్ర రివీల్ చేస్తుంటుంది. హత్యలను కోబ్రా అనే మారు పేరుతో ఓ వ్యక్తి చేస్తున్నాడని జూడీ చెప్పేస్తుంది. కోబ్రా చేసే హత్యలను పోలీసులకు రహస్యంగా చెప్పేదెవరు? అసలు ఈ హత్యలను విక్రమ్ ఎందుకు చేస్తున్నాడనే ఆసక్తి క్యారీ అవుతూ వస్తుంది. మృణాళిని రవి పాత్రతో సెకండాఫ్లో ఎమోషనల్గా కనెక్ట్ చేసే ప్రయత్నం చేశారు కానీ.. బ్యాగ్రౌండ్ స్కోర్ చాలా బావుంది. అప్పటి వరకు లేని ఓ కన్ఫ్యూజన్ను క్రియేట్ చేస్తుంది. ఇల్యూషనేషన్ పాత్రలను క్రియేట్ చేసి ఆ కన్ఫ్యూజన్ పెంచారే కానీ.. అతను మ్యాథమేటిక్స్ ఉపయోగించి హత్యలను చేస్తున్నాడని అస్లాన్ తెలుసుకుని ఆశ్చర్యపోతాడు.
