Tamil actor Arya is very familiar to the Telugu audience as well through a few films. He has now come up with a science fiction film titled Captain.

This is where the skill and mastery of the makers should have come into the picture. The attempt is appreciable but the film doesn’t live upto the expectations. The film is very short but one finds it difficult to sit through the film since we already know what happens in the next moment. His transformation is amazing and he is very much apt in the given role. Aishwarya Lekshmi played the female lead but she is hardly seen in the movie. Arya is almost in every frame of the film and does complete justice. Did Vijay and the team solve the mystery? For any science fiction film, the VFX has to be good or at least decent to have more impact. This forms part of the rest of the movie. When it comes to climax, the less we speak, the better it would be. The film hit the screens today. Vijay Kumar and his team take up the task of chasing down this enigma.

Instead of toning things down to deal with the limitations in the budget, the film goes even further and introduces even bigger monsters in even bigger settings. The final result is a mostly funny creature feature that is most enjoyable when you’re laughing at its ridiculousness. His lack of emotions add so much to the film’s flavour, especially when he’s explaining high concept ideas to people who are actual experts in the subject. Having spent close to 45 minutes establishing its world and a mystery around these creatures, you feel the film is taking the Jaws route by letting our own imagination run wild without so much as a glance of what it actually looks like. The director who made Tamil cinema’s first space film and the first zombie film, has returned with a creature feature that is part alien invasion, part eco-activism and wholly bonkers. Instead, what we feel is a kind of amusement as we witness the makers taking the film a tad too seriously.Written around an upright army officer named Vetri (Arya), the film traces the missions of this captain’s efficient team as they enter the restricted area to find out why so many people, who’ve gone in before them, have never retuned.

సినిమాటోగ్రఫీ : ఎస్. నెగిటివ్ లు : పాజిటివ్ లు : చాలా సీన్స్ లో ఆర్య ఫిజికల్ గా కూడా చాలా సీన్స్ లో కష్టపడాల్సి వచ్చింది. కెమెరా వర్క్ కూడా నీట్ గా బాగుంది. దానికి కష్టపడ్డారు. దానికి తోడు డైరక్టర్ తన దృష్టిని కథ మీద కాకుండా కేవలం మిగతా విషయాలమీద పెట్టినట్లున్నారు. VFX విషయానికి వస్తే ఆడియన్స్ చాలా మెచ్యూర్ గా ఉన్నారు. కాబట్టి ఆ విషయంలో మాగ్జిమం చాలా ప్రీ ప్రొడక్షన్ వర్క్ చేసి ఆ సమస్యను అధిగమించే ప్రయత్నం చేస్తూంటారు. ప్రతీ సారి తన సాహసాలతో సమయస్పూర్తితో చాలా ఈజీగా డీల్ చేసే విజయ్ కుమార్ కు అక్కడ పరిస్దితులు ఓ పట్టాన లొంగవు. ఇది వేరే కథ. అయితే హీరో ఆర్య ..అబ్బే ఇది ఆ కథ కాదు.

I think it might be a tad overdramatic for me to refer to the time spent in the theatre as a sacrifice, but to be fair to the film, it’s at least mindful enough to not be indulgently long. I suppose it says a lot when you watch a film, and you are grateful that it isn’t longer than it is. I thought it strange that there’s such little opposition to killing a creature that the humans barely know about. What’s causing people to lose their minds in the presence of the creature? The film doesn’t ever tell us much about Vetri, except that he’s an army man and he prefers that all of us be patriotic. Is he a bit of a loner like in his previous film with this director, Teddy?
