Whenever Werewolf by Night is situated in the current MCU timeline is yet to be seen, but from the trailer, it has some big connections to the larger canon. The addition of Jack Russell to the MCU could mean one thing: The Midnight Sons. In the MCU series, Russell will be portrayed by Mexican actor Gael García Bernal, best known for his work in Bad Education and In a fit of rage, Jack transforms into the titular beast to avenge his mother's death. Directed by Michael Giacchino, not much is known plotwise but from the trailer, it looks to be a group of monster hunters fighting to find the werewolf among them.

During Saturday's D23 Marvel Studios reveals, a trailer was publicly released for an upcoming Halloween special entitled Werewolf by Night.

Moon Knight played in the MCU by Oscar Isaac began as a villain in the 'Werewolf by Night' comic. In the comics, the character has been a frequent guest star for other heroes, particularly the spookier members of the Marvel Universe. Michael Giacchino, who has worked as a composer on Marvel films such as 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' and 'Thor: Love and Thunder', directs the special.

Marvel Studios' upcoming Werewolf by Night special makes history for the studio in multiple ways.

Werewolf by Night will be Marvel Studios' first real venture into the supernatural side of the MCU. It's exciting to see how Marvel Studios will take advantage of all these wildly different elements to make something truly unique in the MCU. But, while that show only did it for two episodes, this will be the first project that is entirely in black and white in the vein of classic Universal monster movies. For Werewolf by Night, it's simply a stylistic choice to help reinforce the inspiration of classic monster movies. This classification will likely be used for The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special later this year in December. Marvel Studios & Disney+'s Werewolf by Night director Michael Giacchino addressed speculation that a meet-up with Moon Knight was on the way.

In the following interview with ET Canada, Giacchino explains how the special is a "monster movie" that wants to offer an effective allegory to the challenges many people face in their lives as they struggle to rise above and make a difference.
