Is that something I expected to be writing heading into a very important Champions League group stage game in the middle of September? This is the second group stage game of the season. Milik can, at least, do some of the things a seconda punta is capable of, so they can theoretically work off each other and hopefully combine for some good things if given the chance. But, at the very least, Milik has shown the ability to capitalize on those chances if given something to work with. Basically, it looks as though Milik is as much of a lock to start as Vlahovic is. His status in terms of being in the starting lineup against Benfica still remains to be seen, according to Allegri. Juventus is very in a myriad of disappointing and/or mixed performances and overall a bunch of disappointing results. (Before fixing it, I originally wrote “three pints” instead of “three points” and I feel like the former is what a lot of us need each time we watch Juve play these days.) Juventus can’t afford to go down six points to one team, let alone two, this early in the group stage. It doesn’t matter who is perceived as the bigger club or whatever “bigger” bigger means at this point. [Champions League](https://www.sbnation.com/champions-league) group stage schedule was first released, we pretty much knew that there was a very good chance Juve entered its first European match at home this season already looking one loss in the face.

With seven failed attempts in Champions League finales, the Bianconeri are the undisputed holders of an unwanted record. In response, he immediately opted to quit his job while allegedly claiming that the club won’t win a European trophy for 100 years. In fact, Wednesday’s opponents are mostly renowned for their shortcomings on European finals rather than their exploits.

An uninspiring Juventus were defeated 2-1 in the UEFA Champions League by a plucky Benfica side that proved too hot to handle for the Bianconeri.
The Argentine squandered a golden opportunity to level things up and was a bit rusty, but still showed flashes of his talent. To be fair, the youngster was having a decent game until he gave away a penalty and allowed Benfica a crucial way back into the game at half-time. A mixed bag for the Juventus captain, who looked decent enough when called upon and produced a host of crucial blocks and interceptions to keep his side in the game. Even so, he was left to defend all on his own and was a tad unlucky to catch Ramos’s leg. He disrupted the play to some extent and tried to stop Benfica’s build-up with pressing. The Brazilian was one of the better defenders for Juventus and made several key interventions but was a lost cause on other occasions. He was dragged out of position far too often due to a non-existent midfield cover and full-backs not bothering to track back. Another rough day in the office for the Colombian, who clearly needs a break. He could not have done much to stop Joao Mario’s penalty and parried a powerful Rafa Silva strike prior to the second Benfica goal. He made a flurry of saves to keep the scoreline respectable. Things quickly went from bad to worse for the hosts, who shipped a second goal just ten minutes into the second half. Benfica came back from behind to secure a 2-1 win at Juventus, with goals from Joao Mario and David Neres helping them maintain their perfect start in the UEFA Champions League Group H.
