On the whole, Aa Ammayi Gurunchi Meeku Cheppali is a passable romantic drama that has a below-par first half and a decent second half. The theme of the film is something that may not appeal to the masses. The first half of the film is pretty ordinary and a lot of time has been taken to get into the actual plot. Also, the film goes flat most of the time and it becomes predictable too. Coming to director Indraganti Mohanakrishna he has once again chosen a sensible family drama that had more emotions and did a decent job in making an engaging film. The pacing has been very slow in the first half and at parts in the latter hour. The apprehensions a family has when their child wants to get into the film industry are showcased well. Krithi Shetty has probably got the best role of her career and she gave a stunning performance. The emotional angle has been well handled by the director. Alekhya and her family hate films to the core. The film hit the screens today. His role demands maturity and he gave a settled performance throughout as a film director.

Sudheer has the personality that befits the part of a young director who could also be a hero and he plays Naveen with an easy swagger and enough heft in the later portions. Indraganti peppers the film with plenty of observations about the industry. It is easy to understand what drives Naveen and Alekhya, but the characters of the girl’s parents could have been fleshed out better to prevent them from coming across as lopsided in their blind hatred of the cinema. If you have that ‘oh, I didn’t see that coming’ reaction, in a nice way, the rest of the story will work. The portions involving Naveen, Bose and Ramana ensure that there is humour while also presenting diverse people in the industry. The first hour or so is spent on such jibes on the industry and in establishing the characters.
