Portugal got the best out of Bruno Fernandes in a 4-0 thrashing of the Czech Republic in the Nations League on Saturday.

Fernandes was allowed more freedom as Santos turned away from the three-man midfield he has leaned on for much of the past couple of years. Portugal deployed a double-pivot between Wolves' Ruben Neves and Real Betis' William Carvalho, which allowed Fernandes and Manchester City's Bernardo Silva to push up the pitch more than they're sometimes allowed. He's worked his way back to being an easy first-choice selection.

Portugal manager Santos forgot who was on his bench in Nations ... (Goal India)

Fernando Santos admitted after Portugal's win over the Czech Republic that he had forgotten he had Tiago Djalo on the bench.

WHAT THEY SAID: “I forgot that I had Tiago Djalo on the bench, I apologize to Tiago Djalo," he told reporters. Santos admitted after the game that he should have brought on Lille defender Tiago Djalo instead but had completely forgotten he had the 22-year-old available as a substitute. The Portugal manager replaced Danilo with Joao Mario late on in Portugal's win and shifted midfielder Joao Palhinha into his defence.
