Not going to reveal the genre as it would be a surprise to the audiences too. Kudos to entire team.— RK SURESH (@Cringe_Boyy)— RK SURESH (@Cringe_Boyy) [September 29, 2022] Next, he has the bilingual film Sir/Vaathi and Captain Miller in the pipeline. Climax is the little negative but overall a worthy content delivered from Selva With the film hitting theatres today, the first-day first-show reviews of Naane Varuven have started pouring in on Twitter and it seems like Dhanush has once again managed to cast a spell on the audience with his stellar act. Yuvan Shankar Raja composed the music for the film.
Naane Varuvean Movie Review: It is a psychological thriller that is the brainchild of Dhanush and his director brother Selvaraghavan.
Naane Varuvean is a clean and decent psychological thriller suitable for the family audience. The climax is rather predictable and ends with a regular commercial film formula. The film's runtime is crisp and perfect. In the movie, Dhanush portrayed a dual role and Selvaraghavan too played an important role of Soomarajan. Naane Varuvean is a psychological thriller that is the brainchild of Dhanush and his director-brother Selvaraghavan. The duo has united after a gap of 11 years for Naane Varuvean, which has the story and script written by Dhanush himself.
Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan and Selvaraghavan's Naane Varuven will clash at the Tamil box office this September end.
This is evident in the scripts he chose, such as Asuran and Karnan, Shamitabh, Atrangi Re, and The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir. In the past, movies earned respectable sums of money, even when the content was weak; due to the devoted fan bases of celebrities. In some circumstances, especially when the content is poor, viewers may decide to delay going to the theatres, and instead wait for them to release on an OTT platform. And that demonstrates the degree of certainty and total faith the two have in one another to believe they can bring out the best in one another. It's challenging to portray a character that has psychological problems, but Dhanush has excelled in each of his films, throughout his career by pushing the envelope. While he has long been a mainstay of Indian films, The Gray Man (streaming on Netflix) helped Dhanush establish himself in Hollywood. The actor was then directed by Selvaraghavan in Kaadhal Kondein, in which he played the part of a young lad, who was mentally ill and in love with his friend. The two brothers are further joining hands for Ayirathil Oruvan 2, which is planned as a 2024 release, as it will require a lot of post-production work. Without a doubt, Selvaraghavan has a deep understanding of his brother, and that shows in the characters he creates for him, which always bring out the best in Dhanush. Dhanush demonstrated that he was one of the top actors working today with this one. The audience yearned for a sequel to this cult masterpiece film, but it hasn't been made yet. Perhaps, team Ponniyin Selvan learned a thing or two from the mammoth success of the Kamal Haasan-starrer.
The first half of Naane Varuvean is a delight. And this has a lot to do with the fact that this is a film that we know little about. The promotions ha.
That said, this is a welcome genre film featuring a star hero and the first half is a pleasant surprise. While the length ensures that there is no boredom, this also robs the film of any depth and drama. The emotions work and you believe them to be a family. In the eyes of his colleague (Yogi Babu), he is living the perfect life and is blessed with everything that a man could ask for. The first half of Naane Varuvean is a delight. The entire first half is basically setting up of the premise.

In a recent interview, the producer of Naane Varuvean, Kalaipuli S Thanu, disclosed that the Singapore censor board, which screened the film, referred to Naane Varuvean as "Selvaraghavan's return." Given the subject and the director, Dhanush's writing for the movie creates an odd buzz. Naane Varuvean Movie Review: Dhanush will play two characters in the psychological action thriller film.
Dhanush, after 'Thiru', proves to be a consummate actor yet again. His evil laughter adds weight to Kathir, the perverse demon in the guise of a human.
His evil laughter adds weight to Kathir, the perverse demon in the guise of a human. Is it a lead to what might happen if ever a second part is made? Even after the defining flashback in the second half, the film goes to great lengths in dramatizing the father-daughter agony. The tension has been built adroitly, although one can't say this is a masterful psychological thriller. The reference to 'twin instinct' is not pretentious. As a storyline, 'Naane Varuvean' is fascinating; the film does not overdo its complexities either.

So, far there are only 4 Tamil films that managed to take a double-digit start, Dhanush’s last outing Thiruchitrambalam was opened with a little below the 10 crore mark. However, the highly awaited Mani Ratnam flick is arriving in the theatres from tomorrow onwards. Due to the lack of promotions, Dhanush film hasn’t fared enough from the bookings, it sold over 1.37L tickets worth Rs 2.35 Cr, for the opening day.

But, when the big reveal happens in the second half of Naane Varuven, you can easily be disappointed. Naane Varuven enjoys a free fall in the second half and takes the audience with it. It is when Naane Varuven surprises you the most. The biggest justice one can do to Naane Varuven is to know nothing about the film before watching the film. The first half of Naane Varuven has Selvaraghavan written all over it. While Prabhu is the goody-two-shoes, Kathir is the evil one.

Especially the way they arrive at a resolution to the central conflict is just laden with unnecessary weight. He lights the skirt of a girl in the neighbourhood on fire and does it purely for cheap thrills. In Mayakkam Enna, the two of them explored the depths of depression. Unfortunately, his widowed mother decides to abandon him instead of finding a way to treat him, or leave him to the authorities. One that wanted to believe that he deserved a family. Only, unlike the real-life relationship, the one in their film is filled with danger, trauma, physical and mental abuse. In Pudhupettai, the two of them painted the town red by delving deep into the life of a thug. With a short runtime and clean screenplay, Naane Varuven’s exploration of psychopath is intriguing. It is as if the makers want the audience to get ready for a misfortune to strike Prabhu’s family. Research papers suggest that psychopaths show symptoms of their condition as a child.

[Dhanush](https://indianexpress.com/article/entertainment/tamil/new-still-from-dhanushs-captain-miller-out-priyanka-arul-mohan-sandeep-kishan-join-the-cast-8161550/) as Prabhu (he plays a double role in the film) seems a bit odd and synthetic. We also have Yogi Babu as the ‘hero’s friend’, who is irrelevant to the film’s proceedings. Another such gaffe is actor Prabhu playing a psychiatrist (Prabhu), who also happens to be a spiritual healer. Prabhu realizes the ghost of his past is back to haunt him. It is a pity that it only remains an idea and never develops into a flesh-and-blood film. The film, written by

Is it a promise of a sequel, is it a hark back to the astrologer’s warning of impending death, or is it simply about a cynical worldview that evil will persist, no matter what? The rest of the story is entirely about a hunter’s son hunting down his father, through a supernatural route. For all the regressive mishandling of characters, there’s one moment that rings a bell of progressiveness. With a potent lead in Dhanush, and good child actors, this could’ve been a far more effective film had the writing cared to reveal characters beyond the plot. The wife played by Indhuja and the ghostbuster gang of youngsters, are either severely underutilised or are pitched at such a tone where we’re laughing at them. Our knowledge of Prabhu’s past adds to the ominous nature of events in the present. This is a story about the after-effects of childhood trauma on brothers. The editing too, comes in handy in a couple of moments that are meant to be driven by the scares. But the film never tries to explore the root cause of Kathir’s trauma. Multiple instances like the latter keep taking the seriousness out of a film that could’ve become a genre piece had it been left on its own. The first half is a slow but measured buildup toward a subversive interval block, while the second is one long flashback immediately followed by a quick climax, with hardly any affecting in-betweens. We get expressive, cinematic moments that can only be found in a Selvaraghavan film, alongside the most banally conceived moments that are typical to mainstream Tamil cinema.
Naane Varuven movie review: Dhanush and Selvaraghavan's reunion bears fruit in the form of a well-told, even if slightly predictable, supernatural thriller.
In Selvaraghavan’s world, you can find many Kathirs but it’s rare to come across a Prabhu and Dhanush own him so well. If only the second half was able to create the same impact as the first, Naane Varuven would’ve worked even more effectively. There are enough chilling moments in the first half to make someone appreciate why Selvaraghavan is a master storyteller, especially when he’s making stories in his zone. The fact that the team didn’t even release a trailer actually helped the film leave the desired impact and surprise the audiences to a large extent. The revelation forces him to cross paths with his long-lost twin brother and what follows forms the crux of the story. He hires a team of young ghost-busters to help him save his daughter but little does he know that the attempt will actually make him learn who’s behind the possession.
