Vikram Vedha review: Hrithik Roshan comes in guns blazing in this ... (The National)

It may be a remake, but Pushkar and Gayatri's testosterone-fuelled action film Vikram Vedha can stand on its own two feet, thanks in large part to Hrithik ...

Khan, on the other hand, pales in comparison to Madhavan's rendition of the character. Abu Dhabi stands in for Lucknow in the film. The dance number Alcoholiya, added in an effort to “Bollywood-ise” the film, feels quite out of place and tips into the cringeworthy.

Vikram Vedha movie review: This Hrithik, Saif-starrer packs ... (Hindustan Times)

Vikram Vedha movie review: Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan make each other shine bright in an enjoyable--if somewhat sanitised--remake of the Tamil cult ...

Vikram Vedha is a stylised, blown-up, and somewhat sanitised remake of a cult classic. Invariably, in a cop and gangster film, the latter walks away with the whistles and all the crowd’s love. Their chemistry is crackling and the best scenes of the film are always when Vikram and Vedha are talking, not fighting, or shooting, but merely engaged in dialogue. But that is the signature of Pushkar and Gayatri. The performances here are decent and not a shade on what these gents managed in Omkara and Guzaarish. The support cast is strong, particularly Radhika Apte and Sharib Hashmi, the latter thankfully cast against type in a role that allows him to showcase his versatility. The bottom line is that it is different enough to enjoy on its own, without comparisons. It is an interesting choice of setting for the story, as far removed from the original’s Chennai as possible and yet desi enough to retain the earthy touch of the script. Vikram Vedha is loosely based on the folktale of Vikram-Betaal. Surrounding this beautiful and layered folk-inspired script is an assortment of slick fight scenes and action sequences, and a Hrithik dance number. Each of the answers also helps him solve a case he is working on. The Hrithik Roshan and [Saif Ali Khan](https://www.hindustantimes.com/topic/saif-ali-khan)-starrer is a remake of the 2017 Tamil hit, which had Vijay Sethupathi and R Madhavan in those roles respectively.

'Vikram Vedha' review: Hrithik Roshan shines in an efficient remake ... (Scroll.in)

Pushkar-Gayatri's Hindi adaptation of their Tamil film stars Roshan, Saif Ali Khan and Radhika Apte.

We request you to support our award-winning journalism by making a financial contribution towards the Scroll Ground Reporting Fund. Do we believe Vedha because of what he is saying or because of the movie star who is doing the asking? The often-banal Hindi dialogue by BA Fida and Manoj Muntashir, which is overlaid by deafening background music, is more concerned with rolling out punchlines than raising doubts about what we think we know about crime and punishment. As a member of a special task force in Uttar Pradesh, Vikram is an expert in dressing up extra-judicial executions. Knowing well that Sethupathi is irreplaceable, Pushkar-Gayatri have moulded the Hindi-language Vedha around Hrithik Roshan, who brings immense star power to the role along with a newfound ease before the camera. For Vikram Vedha, Roshan sheds the kilos, acquires an age-appropriate scruffiness and never makes the mistake of trying to imitate Sethupathi.

Vikram Vedha review – swaggering Bollywood remake of Tamil ... (The Guardian)

Pushkar-Gayatri's reboot of their 2017 hit improves on the original thanks to two zingy lead performances from Saif Ali Khan and Hrithik Roshan.

A likely hit for an industry that sorely needs one – and a story that bears, and even improves with, repetition. It is crucial to Pushkar-Gayatri’s mischievous project that the cop gets it from all sides, and Roshan displays such phosphorescent, screen-torching charisma that our sympathies are regularly redistributed. Vikram Vedha was a Tamil hit in 2017, a twisty, semi-subversive thriller in which a bad-ass Chennai cop and a wily criminal swap stories rather than blows or bullets.
