பிரின்ஸ் திரைப்படத்தில் இடம்பெற்றுள்ள பெரும்பாலான நகைச்சுவை காட்சிகள் அனைவரையும் சென்றடைவது கடினம். இயக்குனர் அனுதீபின் நகைச்சுவை சிந்தனையும், சிவகார்த்திகேயனின் கமர்சியல் ஃபார்முலா சிந்தனையும் பிரின்ஸ் திரைப்படத்தில் கலந்திருப்பது படத்திற்கு பெரும் பலவீனம். அதேபோல் நாயகனுக்கு வில்லனாக வரும் பிரேம்ஜிக்கு பிரின்ஸ் வித்தியாசமாக இருந்தாலும், காட்சிகள் ரசிக்கவைக்கவில்லை. அதற்கு காரணம் அந்தப் படங்கள் எடுக்கப்பட்ட விதம் மற்றப்படங்களில் இருந்து வித்தியாசமாகவும், ரசிக்கும்படியும் எடுக்கப்பட்டிருக்கும். ஒரே கதையில் ஏராளமான படங்கள் வெளியாகி வெற்றியடைந்துள்ளன. ஆனால் தன் வாரிசுகளின் காதலை எதிர்கிறார். இதனால் பிரின்ஸ் படம் மூலம் ஹாட்ரிக் அடிக்க முயற்சித்தார். தன் வாரிசுகள் காதல் திருமணம்தான் செய்துகொள்ள வேண்டும் என்று சத்யராஜ் எண்ணுகிறார். ஆனால் பிரின்ஸ் கதையும் பழசு, படமாக்க எடுத்த முயற்ச்சியும் ரசிகர்களை சரியான பாதையில் சென்றடையவில்லை. சிவகார்த்திகேயன் நடித்துள்ள பிரின்ஸ் படம் இன்று வெளியாகியுள்ளது. காதலில் வெற்றி அடைந்தார்களா என்ற இடத்தில் படம் முடிகிறது. மிகுந்த எதிர்பார்ப்புக்கு மத்தியில் வெளியாகியுள்ள இந்தப் படம் எப்படி இருக்கிறது என்பதை பார்க்கலாம்.

I really wish that a lot more jokes worked but this is a simple film that deserves respect for its intentions. It is such a pleasant surprise to see a filmmaker not just talk about equality but also do it from the POV of someone from the other side. It is not the hero or ‘us’ who teaches a lesson or two about empathy. Whether the film works or not is a different question, but Anudeep and his team deserve praise and respect for what they have set out to achieve and for what they have achieved with regards to this aspect. The chemistry between Siva and Sathyaraj works to a decent extent, and is one of the few highlights of the movie which lacks a coherent screenplay.

But the lack of a coherent screenplay is evident throughout the movie. Sivakarthikeyan tries his best to single-handedly shoulder most of the sequences that he appears in. Their only hope is Anbu's father Ulaganathan (Sathyaraj), a supposedly progressive man, who takes pride in his ancestors' contribution to the society. They are after his life because of the sole reason that he fell in love with Jessica (Maria Riaboshapka), who hails from Britain. After a few twists and turns, the school teacher is asked by the neighbours and others to leave the village. Review: The impact of Anudeep's debut film Jathi Ratnalu was so big that film lovers knew what to expect from his second outing Prince starring Sivakarthikeyan in the lead.

அப்படியான ஒருகதையை காமெடி ட்ராக் நிறைந்த திரைக்கதையால் அப்பாவித்தனங்கள் நிறைந்த காதாபாத்திரங்களால், வசனங்களால் ஆரம்பம் முதல் இறுதிவரை சிரிப்புடன் எங்கேஜிங்காக கொண்டுச் சென்றதற்காக இயக்குநர் அனுதீப்பிற்கு வாழ்த்துச் சொல்லலாம். இந்த தன்மைக்கு ஏற்ற ரியாக்ஷன் கொடுத்து அசாதாரணமாக நடித்து படம் முடித்து வெளியே வந்தாலும் உலகநாதன் பாத்திரத்தை மறக்க முடியாமல் செய்து சீனியர் நடிகராக ஜொலித்துள்ளார் சத்யராஜ். ‘டாக்டர்’, ‘டான்’ பட வரிசையில் தனக்கு கைவந்த காமெடி ஜானரையே மீண்டும் தேர்வு செய்து அப்பாவித்தனமான முகபாவனைகள், அதைத் தாண்டிய நடனம் என தான் ஒரு பக்கா கமர்ஷியல் + ஃபேமிலி என்டர்டெயினர் என்று அழுத்தமாக பதிவு செய்துள்ளார் சிவா. ‘டான்’ படத்தில் ஸ்டூடன்ட் என்றால் இதில் டீச்சராக அவரின் ஆஸ்தான காமெடி களத்தில் தனக்கே உரித்தான பாணியில் அதகளம் செய்துள்ளார். அப்படிபட்டவரின் மகள் சொந்தத்துக்குள் திருமணம் செய்ததால் கேலிக்குள்ளான உலகநாதன், தனது மகன் அன்புவை (சிவகார்த்திகேயன்) சாதி, மதம் கடந்து காதலிக்கச் சொல்கிறார். முற்போக்குவாதியான கடலூர் தேவனகோட்டை உலகநாதன் (சத்யராஜ்), ஊருக்கெல்லாம் சாதி, மதம் குறித்து ரத்தம் சொட்ட வைத்து பாடம் எடுக்கிறார்.

It's a sort of manic conviction that makes Prince tolerable, even when nothing's going for it.

Adding that he also doesn’t need a sidekick to keep the jokes flowing, you can also see how he’s able to distract us from the severe ineptitude of the foreign actors (the Tamil they speak is insufferable). All of this is truly absurd and can only be thought off by a person for whom laughter is both the journey and destination. Sense, for instance, is so far removed from the world of Prince that the combined IQ of all the main characters is still in the low single digit. Which is why it feels so organic when you finally have a Tamil movie patriarch (an excellent Sathyaraj) who is actually heartbroken when his daughter elopes with someone from the same caste. Its entire screenplay could fit in the back of a chewing gum wrapper and it’s never really a screenplay as much as it’s an excuse to cue in the next comedic sketch. Parts of Sivakarthikeyan’s Prince borrows generously from the same part of Anudeep’s brain that seeks poetry in the inane.

Prince movie review: Director Anudeep's brand of comedy is unique and might not be for everyone.

The point is to make you laugh for those few stretches, and maybe it’s a win… If you were to watch the film on OTT, you would have skipped the customary bridges that connect the good stretches, and you would still not miss anything. However, ‘conflict’ is a strong word for a film that doesn’t take itself seriously even for a nanosecond. It is so obvious that the hilarious stretches are connected by a generic thread about a love story between a Tamil guy and a Brit girl. The heroine Jessica (Maria Ryaboshapka) asks the hero Anbu ( [Sivakarthikeyan](https://indianexpress.com/about/sivakarthikeyan/)) to take her to a good vegetable shop. The moment you try to explain Anudeep’s sense of humour, you will end up missing the point.

A few comedy scenes are enjoyable, especially in the first half and the climax. Music by Thaman, cinematography by Manoj Paramahamsa and the production values are neat. Anudeep succeeded in making the film look rich and neat but failed as a writer. Sathyaraj’s performance stands out in the film. Having Sivakarthikeyan as the protagonist, Anudeep should have written a strong story with neat comedy. In general, people have huge expectations for the next film of a director who scores a massive hit like Jathi Ratnalu. This is the immediate film of Sivakarthikeyan after scoring two back-to-back hits – Doctor and Don. But, his father Vishwanath (Sathyaraj) opposes their love because of a strong reason and the villagers decide to ostracise Anand from the village. Sathyaraj as Vishwanath steals the entire show. The bilingual film finally hit the screens today. Why the entire village wanted Anand to leave the place? Anand (Sivakarthikeyan), a school teacher, falls in love with his colleague Jessica (Maria Ryaboshapka), a British girl at first sight.
