After Reliance & ITC, is it HDFC Bank's turn to be an outperformer ... (Economic Times)

People should remain focussed on the larger size banks if at all and they have to invest in financials and not try to do value picking in stocks which have ...

It is a merger of convenience and that is what is leading to this subdued price movements. That merger is not in favour of retail minority investors, it is not for them. These lenders will have a tougher time going forward also given the fact that their deposit franchise is much weaker than the larger banks and in a rising interest rates scenario it hits them much more. There were people who were believers and there were people who were non-believers also. The same thing happened with Sandip Sabharwal: The only difference between all those stocks and HDFC Bank is that all those stocks had sceptics also. In my view, if the merger with HDFC had not been announced, HDFC could have been Rs 1800 plus. That is true and that is also see it is a familiarity bias for many of the retail investors because they tend to bank these banks then they think that SBI is at Rs 570, these banks are at Rs 30, Rs 40, or Rs 100 and that belief comes in that they should move up. In HDFC Bank, there are only bulls. Not everything in the PSU banking space is looking strong and not everything in the PSU banking space will deliver but markets right now are not differentiating good from bad and bad from great, it is a rising tide phenomenon started with I think at the lower end there is obviously trouble because the borrowers are impacted by high inflation and a slower demand especially in the unorganised business or semi-organised business and that is getting reflected in all these results.
