The polling process was by and large peaceful, an official said. Polling began at 7 am across 320 booths in the constituency and continued till 6 pm, they said. The turnout was 69.79 per cent in March. Tight security arrangements were in place across all the booths, manned by central paramilitary forces besides the local police. Voting started at 8 am amid tight security arrangements at all the 295 booths set up in the segment. Rampur Sadar and Khatauli in Uttar Pradesh, Padampur in Odisha, Sardarshahar in Rajasthan, Kurhani in Bihar and Bhanupratappur in Chhattisgarh were the assembly seats where the byelections were held on December 5. In Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat, where both SP and BJP ran a high-voltage campaign, over 53 per cent votes were polled till 5 pm. In Khatauli, 56.46 per cent voter turnout was recorded till 5 pm. Bargarh district collector Monisha Banerjee said according to the latest information, the voting percentage is estimated at 80.5 per cent. While Janata Dal (United) candidate Manoj Singh Kushwaha is leading in Bihar’s Kurhani Assembly segment, Congress is leading in both Sardarshahar (Rajasthan) and Bhanupratappur (Chhattisgarh) Assembly constituencies. In Odisha’s Padampur Assembly seat, BJD candidate Barsha Singh Bariha is leading with a total of 59,416 votes.
