But it has made for a comical story that has gone down well with Federer and tennis fans in general. [In an interview earlier this week](/sport/tennis/1707223/Wimbledon-security-guard-refused-Roger-Federer-entry-SW19-hilarious-ordeal-tennis-news), Federer recalled trying to kill some time after a doctor's appointment in London by going to Wimbledon for the first time outside of the tournament for some tea. And Wimbledon have insisted the Swiss icon is welcome at SW19 whenever he fancies.

Roger Federer hilariously revealed in a recent interview how he was denied entry into Wimbledon despite being a record eight-time winner of the tournament.

And I looked at her and said ' I have won this tournament eight times. With the guard once again giving the same response, Federer added, "So I look at her one last time, and I'm in a panic now. And this is the first time I'm here while the tournament is not on." So I'm like 'I'm a member, and normally when I'm here, I'm playing. Speaking of the incident, he added, "And she's 'yeah do you have a membership card?' I'm like 'we have one? Where is the gate?"
