Study Shows Merits of Photon-Counting CT in Detecting Subtle Post ... (Diagnostic Imaging)

In a recently published prospective study comparing photon-counting detector computed tomography (PCD CT) versus energy-integrating detector CT (EID CT) in ...

Yet the use of 1.0 mm PCD CT in comparison to 1.0 mm EID CT revealed five abnormalities in four participants. They acknowledged that false positive findings on PCD CT could not be ruled out due to a lack of histopathological correlation with the study findings. “Photon-counting detector (PCD) CT revealed subtle lung abnormalities in symptomatic participants with persistent COVID-19 symptoms that were not detectable on energy-integrating detector (EID) CT but may be indicative of irreversible fibrosis,” wrote Benedikt H. Beyond the small sample size, the study authors said other possible limitations may have included slight variation between EID CT and PCD CT in the use of sharp edge-enhancing CT reconstruction kernels to help detect subtle abnormalities. The study authors added that PCD CT showed fine reticulations for six participants in areas that had been identified as ground glass opacities by EID CT. While linear bands and ground-glass opacities were the most common findings with EID CT, the researchers said PCD CT uncovered additional lung abnormalities in half of the study cohort.

Former AIIMS chief answers FAQs on fresh Covid concern, boosters ... (India Today)

Data shows those who have taken the booster are less likely to have long Covid, Dr Randeep Guleria said.

Therefore, I feel we are in a better situation and we have crossed the halfway mark.” It also decreases the chance of the virus replicating there and spreading more rapidly to others. Unlike what we saw in the last two years, we now have a good degree of immunity. We may have had an increase in the number of cases but there is a lot that we don’t know because a large number of people are not coming forward and getting tested. Data shows those who have taken the booster are less likely to have long Covid, Dr Guleria added. They are easy to administer and they give mucosal immunity which protects from the early part of the infection, he added. I think we may see an increase in the number of cases with mild illness, but I don’t think we are going to see an increase in hospitalizations or deaths because our immunity is high and this variant doesn’t lead to pneumonia like the Delta wave,” Dr Guleria said. Earlier, it was not being encouraged by several countries because you needed that many doses of the other vaccine to cover the entire population. So we may say that the number of positive cases in our country is low,” he added. So wearing a mask is something that should be encouraged. Secondly, a large number of the population there has not got the vaccine. But subsequently, it led to a large part of the population never being exposed to the virus and with no antibodies against the virus.
