VAR Review: Explaining the offside drama in Liverpool vs. Wolves (ESPN India)

Liverpool and Wolverhampton Wanderers played out a 2-2 draw in the third round of the FA Cup at Anfield. This is what happened with VAR.

[Liverpool](/football/team?id=364) took the lead in the 52nd minute when [Cody Gakpo](http://www.espn.com/soccer/player/_/id/249524/Cody-Gakpo) tried to find [Mohamed Salah](http://www.espn.com/soccer/player/_/id/173896/Mohamed-Salah) with a ball over the top. There is no doubt Salah is in an offside position, but if the officials judge Toti's actions to be a "deliberate play", Salah cannot be penalised or offside. In this instance, the VAR wrongly became involved in the game to change a correct decision which cost Juve two points. But there were no camera angles that could be calibrated for offside for the position of Nunes and the last defender when Hwang heads the ball. Man City are closing in on their first January signing after Fabrizio Romano revealed Pep Guardiola has received a reference from a former Liverpool star.

Still, City want to ensure they have a strong squad for the present and the future. The deal could be worth a transfer fee in the region of £6.6million. Guardiola’s side have been on the trail of Velez Sarsfield starlet, Maximo Perrone. January isn’t always the busiest month for the biggest clubs, who already have settled squads. Romano has previously reported that City have a first-team role in mind for him, and will not be loaning him out to one of their sister clubs. The midfielder was also on the radar of Newcastle, but City seem to have pulled into pole position.
