Most of the schemes that focussed on the upliftment of the girl child looked into creating a better and equitably accessible educational system. The recently formulated New Education Policy was also aimed towards this goal and hopes to achieve 100 per cent gross enrolment ratio of girls by 2030 for school education and further eliminate the gender disparity. The celebrations focus on promoting the importance of the girl child's education, health, and nutrition. Marking the occasion this year, the Women and Child Development Department will celebrate National Girl Child Week from 24 to January 30. National Girl Child Day 2023: History, significance and all you need ... (News9 Live)

National Girl Child Day is celebrated in order to raise public awareness about the inequalities that girls face in Indian society.

The day is also celebrated to raise awareness about the rights of girls and the importance of their education, health, and nutrition. It also aims to raise public awareness about the societal inequalities that girls face. Women are still considered inferior to men in India, which remains a predominantly male-dominated society. As a result, despite years of education, economic progress, and globalisation, girls continue to face prejudice in a variety of settings, including school and employment. People from all walks of life are invited to participate, and it is emphasised that girls should have the same decision-making rights as boys. The day is marked by organised programmes such as Save the Girl Child awareness campaigns, child sex ratios, and the creation of a healthy and safe environment for girls.
