Thanks to the Rs 951 broadcast deal, the five franchises will get Rs 25-30 crore per season, but still have to pay the franchisee fee to the BCCI. In 2008, when the BCCI introduced the concept of IPL to India’s leading corporate, they were sceptical about investing in the T20 format. Although the WPL is yet to take-off, the huge bids made on the table is also indication of how the corporate houses are not letting go of any chance to be associated with T20 leagues. And among them, [Mumbai](https://indianexpress.com/section/cities/mumbai/) Indians (Rs 912 cr), Royal Challengers [Bangalore](https://indianexpress.com/section/cities/bangalore/) (Rs 901 cr), [Delhi](https://indianexpress.com/section/cities/delhi/) Capitals (Rs 810 cr) placed the highest and walk away with a franchise. The BCCI recently earned a big sum from the sale of the women’s IPL media rights, which were bagged by Viacom 18 for INR 951 crore (USD 116.7 million approx.) for a five-year period between 2023 and 2027. The owners of men’s IPL teams Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore, as well as the Adani Group and Capri Global, have won bids to own the five women’s IPL teams at the auction ahead of the inaugural edition to be played in March this year.
