Director Shaji Kailas' Alone, starring Mammootty, is a one-actor film that tries to be a thriller with a twist. But, it neither offers thrill nor the ...
Das has a strong feeling that there is a reason why the spirits are in the house. His camaraderie with Hari Bhai (Prithviraj), a retired goon, is an interesting bond that could have been explored better. Once you start hearing the voices, you automatically know that these are spirits. Kalidas (Mohanlal) is a motivational speaker, who moves into a new apartment in Kochi. In fact, Alone reminds you of Parthiepan’s Othatha Seruppu, a film with just one actor. [By Janani K](/author/janani-k): Imagine a film with just Mohanlal in it.
Despite Mohanlal faring better than his other recent outings, 'Alone' is that latecomer to the party of pandemic films.
Compared to most of his recent forgettable outings, Mohanlal is in slightly better form in Alone, but that is still not enough to keep the audience engaged over two hours. As if the makers felt that the mystery itself was underwhelming, they conjure up a bizarre theory in the climax to explain the protagonist’s behaviour; the movie would have been better off without that bit of information. The whole setting, of a single protagonist in a high rise building during the pandemic, is reminiscent of the Ranjith Sankar - Jayasurya collaboration Sunny.
The filmmaker is trying the mask the lack of fresh information by overcompensating with complex camera work and loud pointless music.
Not only is this information needed early on but it also tells us to accept the supernatural as a possibility in this film. Kalidas too is forced to mouth lines that only serve the plot without any hint of personality or humour. We also get dozens of absurd angles that are consciously shaky or titled, only to get us to notice the filmmaking “style”. But many [Aarattu](https://www.filmcompanion.in/reviews/aaraattu-movie-review-mohanlal-broken-mixed-tape-of-mohanlal-greatest-hits)s and [Monster](https://www.filmcompanion.in/reviews/malayalam-review/monster-is-an-outdated-mediocre-thriller-that-is-unworthy-of-its-star)s later, the cliche doesn’t seem to have aged all that well. But what the script does with the ultra-thin plot is pretty much what ChatGPT could have done with one simple instruction. It declares early on that it is going to be a single-actor film with all the supporting roles appearing only as voices.
Alone movie review: So what is Alone about? It's about torturing the audience and exploiting our goodwill for Mohanlal. There's no other way to describe the ...
What was the human experience that they wanted to capture? What was the idea they wanted to convey? There’s no other way to describe the experience of watching this film. Is he gonna make us feel proud of him or is he gonna push our admiration for him to a breaking point? As soon as he enters the swanky apartment, he begins to hear some voices. It’s the beginning days of the pandemic and everyone is discovering ways to cope with a new normal.
The worst Mohanlal film is here. That's the most succinct and kind review possible for 'Alone'. Mohanlal is the worst thing about this (even worse) Mohanlal ...
Alone tries to channel that Mohanlal in this premise, and the effect is ludicrous. Disclaimer: This review was not paid for or commissioned by anyone associated with the film. Mohanlal is the worst thing about this (even worse) Mohanlal film. There is a major plot twist packed in all this dull mayhem but it is so overused that it hardly surprises anyone. He decides to investigate the matter, and by the time he uncovers the truth, I was hearing voices in my head that asked me to run from the theatre as fast as I could. Kalidasan (Mohanlal) is the lucky owner of several colourful T-shirts.
Here is the review of Mohanlal's Alone. The plot of Malayalam film Alone is set in 2020 when India witnessed a frightening surge in the number of Covid-19 ...
Though the whole movie is set inside a flat, the view of the sky and time-lapses of the city come are welcome changes in visual settings. The other characters were merely placed in practical positions to assist Kalidas with something or to inspire him to delve deeper into the mystery. Many of Kalidas’s acquaintances are introduced to the audience through their voices and their elaborate exchanges describe their relationship with Kalidas.
Mohanlal and Shaji Kailas's film Alone is getting a great response from the audience in the theatres. Alone is the next super hit film where the two.
To be honest, this film is Laletan’s single-handed fight, and the film’s success can only be said to be Laletan’s single-handed victory. Mohanlal’s performance in the film can be said to be a one-man show. It can be said that the fact that Shaji Kailas has made a comeback is magnificent.
Alone Review | An Insufferable Thriller Where Verbal Diarrhea Meets Radio Drama The only logical answer I can think of on why a movie like Alone was made is ...
The makers are only giving it a movie structure to sell it as a feature film. This verbal diarrhea radio drama package is a dead-on-arrival table profit venture. The shot division and edit pattern of this movie are full of similar wild improvisations that just show you how clueless they were about this film. I never knew that when the central character of a movie has schizophrenia, the director, cinematographer and editor should incorporate schizophrenic elements in the treatment of the film. The only logical answer I can think of on why a movie like Alone was made is that Antony Perumbavoor wanted to make the most of the set he made for Monster. He has come to Kochi during the initial days of the lockdown.
Superstar Mohanlal and the veteran filmmaker Shaji Kailas are teaming up after a long gap and this time the duos are all set for the low-budget movie.
Engaging the audience by showing a single person alone on the screen is a bit of a difficult job but #ShajiKailas managed it well. #Mohanlal One man Show and his Stirring Acting were the Big Advantages of the Film. It's for sure an experimental movie, but the output is much much better than what most…
The only takeaway from this horror-drama hybrid is for filmmakers to move on from lockdown-led movies.
The background music does not blend well with the narrative, and neither does the shaky cinematography. If there’s anything filmmakers must learn in 2023 is that stories based in a pandemic world — unless you have something unique to say — are passé. But those hoping to find solace in just his presence in the film might be disappointed. The screenplay stutters with nothing unique to say, and the one-man show lacks sincerity and any effort. In a predictable series of events, Kalidasan, who is alone in his new flat—13A—begins to hear voices. Alone is set in the early days of the pandemic.
This Mohanlal-Shaji Kailas film is an experiment gone terribly wrong.
In a couple of scenes in Alone, Mohanlal is seen wearing a T-shirt that screams the word 'vintage'. But sadly, this film doesn't even have a glimpse of the good old vintage Mohanlal or Shaji Kailas. But all of this is before the final twist, which has become a routine in most Mohanlal films of late.
Directing a movie with just one character onscreen is a path-breaking attempt and for that alone, Shaji Kailas and scriptwriter Ramesh Jayaraman.alone movie ...
His only solace is the phone calls he makes to his friends and lover Yamuna (voiced by Manju Warrier). Probably, this is because the dialogues have been scripted like mindless chatter. Contrary to his expectations, he is bombarded by strange noises and untoward incidents inside the flat.
