After reinstating themselves in sixth place, Bengaluru FC will carry this momentum into their next fixture against arch-rivals Kerala Blasters on February 11. Just when the Blues thought the job was done, Dimitri Petratos’ shot from outside the box came off Alan Costa and flew past Sandhu in the 93rd minute. At the other end, Rai almost allowed Bengaluru FC a goal on the counter. Krishna and Narayanan linked up again two minutes into the second half when the former’s layoff came to Narayanan, whose volley was crucially blocked by Subhasish Bose. The first chance for Bengaluru FC came via Hernandez, whose shot from the edge of the box went just over the crossbar. His swerving and dipping effort was heading into the bottom corner at the near post before Gurpreet Singh Sandhu went down to palm it behind.

Asish Rai takes a shot from far and Gurpreet had to stay sharp there to prevent it from creeping in at the near post. Pritam Kotal gets an early yellow and has to walk on egg shells for the rest of the game. Manvir finds space inside the box and cuts it back to Petratos, who can only smash it wide. Rohit gets to the byline and tries to cut it back to Roy Krishna. ATKMB wins a corner down the left. Suresh Wangjam is the next to be booked. Liston steals the ball from Javi, but ATKMB can’t make it count in the break. Gallego and Petratos link up well down the left. But it has bounced back admirably since the restart and now has a deserving lead. Would have been a miracle if he had managed to divert it into goal, considering the pace on the ball. But it is well wide of the goal. It is full time and Bengaluru takes home the three points.

Ratings: Javi, Roy Krishna goals sink ATK Mohun Bagan, extend ... (Khel Now)

Javi Hernandez and Roy Krishna scored late goals as Bengaluru FC extended their winning run to five games after beating ATK Mohun Bagan.

Set up Siva on the counter with perfect weight on his passes. Dealt with hung balls in the air with authority. Hardworking in first – but struggled to maintain intensity as the game went on. Caused troubles with his set-piece delivery and his movement in the final third was really menacing. Completed the most passes with 36. In his full ATKMB debut, Gallego failed to match the influence of Hugo Boumous. Petratos worked his socks off in an attempt to energize the ATKMB attackers. The right-back continued his good form in the ISL. Could’ve maybe done better to stop the cross for the second from coming in. Kotal got himself foolishly booked five minutes into the game and had to be cautious afterwards. Roy Krishna was gifted a goal in the 90th minute and Dimitri Petratos’ impressive added-time strike only proved a consolation, with the Blues picking up their first win over ATKMB in ISL history. A relatively tight affair was blown open through an amazing volley from Javi Hernandez in the 78th minute.

The game continued to offer chances for both sides with Bengaluru going close with Alan Costa heading wide following a corner. The first chance of the game fell to ATK Mohun Bagan, in the 19th minute, when Asish Rai’s shot from long range forced Gurpreet into making a sharp save low down to his left. The Spaniard unleashed a well-timed volley past Vishal Kaith following a cross by Naorem Roshan Singh to give the Blues the lead. Bengaluru started the second half well, creating more chances and testing the ATK Mohun Bagan defence. Bengaluru FC were happy to play on the counterattack and also had their share of attacking forays in the ATK Mohun Bagan half. The Australian’s return also marked the first time Bengaluru had their full allocation of foreign players available for a fixture in the Indian Super League this season.

Bengaluru FC coach Simon Grayson reveals why Sunil Chhetri is ... (Khel Now)

Bengaluru FC head coach Simon Grayson spoke on his side's win over ATK Mohun Bagan, Sunil Chhetri's omission and more.

But maybe it’s written in the stars that he will score his second goal of the season in a massive moment. He said: “He will be fresh (for the final games) because he’s not getting a lot of game time. He’s probably still in Spain, but he’s coming with a lot of knowledge of the football club. “Mandar did a fantastic job and the club decided to do whatever they did. Today we had the strongest squad we had all season. We have a strong bench with players like Sunil (Chhetri) and Pablo – we have players who can bring change whenever we need to,” he added. Like a lot of players, they have to be patient and work for an opportunity in training to catch my eye, be it in a reserve game or training. We needed to control the ball better to have better opportunities. We’re pleased with how it has gone, we’ve defeated a tough team that is above us in the division and I think we got a good win tonight,” he added. But we must ensure we must stay humble and work even harder, because football is a difficult sport to keep continuing with success. “Football is all about the fine margins at times and we didn’t get them breaks. [Javi Hernandez](https://khelnow.com/football/2023-01-indian-football-isl-2022-23-atk-moun-bagan-vs-bengaluru-fc-player-ratings) and [Roy Krishna](https://khelnow.com/football/2023-01-indian-football-isl-2022-23-atk-moun-bagan-vs-bengaluru-fc-player-ratings) scored late on to give the Blues their first win over the Kolkata giants in the ISL.

Despite the absence of Chhetri on the field and in the playing XI, Bengaluru FC’s no.11 has been ever-present in the team as a leader and a highly influential figure in the dressing room. Arguably one of the best U-23 players this season and the top U-23 goalscorer this season, Narayanan’s terrific form of late has been highly beneficial for the Blues. Grayson has effectively implemented his strategies, which, although they have come a bit late, have been in tune with the club’s recent performances, not just attacking- wise but overall. But certainly, he's been one of the standout performances so far this season in the whole league this term of new Indian players,” says Tompkins. However, after missing a chunk of games due to injury, the 21-year-old has shaken apart the defences of several teams with his prolific finishing, off-the-ball runs, and a heightened sense of footwork coupled with his pace. “He's one of the best finishers I've ever seen, not just in India, but in the world.
