Capacity of bone marrow unit doubled (Times of India)

Indore: Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College authority has shifted the bone marrow transplant unit to Super Speciality Hospital from MY Hospital to.

It would be a challenge for authorities to perform adult transplants in the new unit. “The new facility would be a big boost for those who need bone marrow transplant,” said Dr Shukla. The number beds in the unit has now increased to ten from five.

The transplant, which replaces bone marrow with healthy cells, is performed to treat disorders like leukemias, lymphomas, aplastic anemia, immune deficiency disorders, etc. With the capacity doubling, the hospital will be able to treat more patients who are in need of a transplant. To date, MGM has carried out above 60 bone marrow transplants.
