Given how Des Buckingham prefers a similar possession-based style of football, the Spaniard will have to outwit the Englishman in his own game. Carlos Pena’s side will want to increase the pace of their gameplay if they are to be the better side. FC Goa vs Mumbai City FC: Read the highlights of the Indian Super League match, FCG vs MCFC, being played at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa.

“At the start of the season, I was asked what game I was looking forward to this season and I answered with the visit to Goa. The two sides have met 21 times in the ISL. Noah Sadaoui has been key to this - the Moroccan has seven goals and seven assists this season. In the last four games, FC Goa has drawn two and won two. The Gaurs will be eager to extend this unbeaten streak to five games to give themselves a narrow advantage in the playoff race. FC Goa, meanwhile, will be looking to capitalise on ATK Mohun Bagan’s drop in form by taking its place in the top four.

Inevitable: Mumbai City become earliest winners of ISL League ... (ESPN India)

FC Goa made things fairly awkward for Mumbai, but the firepower in Des Buckingham's side was simply way too much to deal with.

Lallianzuala Chhangte stepped up, and with the air of a man who cannot be stopped, Chhangte 2.0 slammed it past Dheeraj to make it 4-2 in the 71st minute. It was a childlike swipe with the arm in the penalty box from Anwar Ali that offered Mumbai certainty, not that they needed it, with the referee pointing to the spot. Brison Fernandes made it 5-3 in keeping with the story of the game, but the visitors were already dreaming of their celebrations. In keeping with the end-to-end nature of the game, Sadaoui found Brandon Fernandez with a delicious chip down the middle, and it was 2-2 seconds later as Carlos Pena's no.10 equalised. Mumbai's relentless juggernaut going forward appeared to have ended the game as a contest in the 40th minute, when Stewart's nutmeg+pass to Chhangte bursting down the right ended in another delicious low cross to Jorge Pereyra Diaz, tapping it home to make it 2-1 in the 40th minute to the champions-elect. Anwar Ali launched a long ball from deep in the fifth minute, and there was fairly little danger on offer, but Noah Sadaoui raced past the defence, latched onto Ali's ball before sliding it past Phurba Lachenpa to set the cat firmly amongst the pigeons.

Ratings: Greg Stewart shines as FC Goa hand Mumbai City the Shield (Khel Now)

Greg Stewart shined on the evening Mumbai City defeated FC Goa to lift their second ISL League Winners' Shield title.

His offensive endeavours were minimal as well and Mumbai City found their grip back in the proceedings once he was taken off. He made two tackles, clearances along with an interception and a block each. The goalkeeper couldn’t do much to take care of the strikes that Mumbai City conceded though. A toothless performance from the Spaniard which defied his electric form and saw him get only one shot on target. Completed one take-on but was swept aside by the collective brilliance of Apuia, Greg Stewart and Alberto Noguera. Minimal activity in defensive actions (one tackle won) and no key passes saw him get subbed off for Hernan Santana in the 57th minute. Although he tried his best with two clearances and one blocked shot, he couldn’t match up to the Islanders’ might. Gave way to Aiban Dohling in the 80th minute after getting injured. Vikram Partap Singh then came on and scored after confusion inside the FC Goa box to make it five for Mumbai City. Jorge Pereyra Diaz ghosted behind a napping Gaurs defence, next, to get the finishing touch on a Lallianzuala Chhangte cross. What started off as a tight end-to-end game tilted in favour of the men in light blue as they increased their attacking tempo midway. FC Goa were dismantled by Mumbai City in a 5-3 loss as the Islanders won the ISL 2022-23 League Winners’ Shield at the Fatorda Stadium on Saturday.
