The Night manager Web-series: Bollywood actors Anil Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur have large shoes to fill this Friday as they make their web series debut in ...

I always felt that the strength of character that Olivia Coleman played in the original was different. I went to him and told him that somebody has floated the idea to make an Indian adaptation. And then the challenge became how to tell the story in a way it feels completely Indian. We had interrogated every part of the book in that sense. The joy was whenever we would finish an episode and send a rough cut to Team Ink- the true custodian of le Carre's legacy, we were always sensitive to how Simon and the team would react and they have so far liked it. I was a little nervous, he wrote the book and it's not set in India. So it was critical and challenging to make it Indian and yet to stay true to the vision of John le Carré. In the storytelling and direction, we are breaking new ground, if we look at Adi's performance or Anil's performance, they have found their own version of the characters and made it their own. Considering the series was a huge hit back in the year of release, it has over the years enjoyed a huge fan base. Something that Indian filmmaker and director Sandeep Modi and producer Simon Corwell (the producer of the original series and the remake) know very well. The Night Manager was nominated for thirty-six awards that year, of which it won eleven, including two Primetime Emmy Awards (for director Susanne Bier and music composer Victor Reyes) and three Golden Globe Awards (for Tom Hiddleston, Olivia Colman, and Hugh Laurie). The Night manager Web-series: Bollywood actors Anil Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur have large shoes to fill this Friday as they make their web series debut in Sandeep Modi's The Night Manager.

The story is set across a time span of five years, the scale of the story is very large, and we have cast a very wide set of actors from across many industries in India, me and Mukesh Chhabra. Sobhita is a very known name in the South, we have Tillotama, who’s known for some great Indie work, and of course we have Saswata, the actor we know from Kahaani. The streaming giant introduced paid sharing in Canada, New Zealand, Portugal and Spain on Wednesday. Then Sandeep came on board, the writer came on board, and things began taking the most beautiful shape. We wanted to make the show stand tall beside the original and that’s what Sandeep has achieved, and more. I remember him asking me about his walk and voice, he used to send me voice notes and tell me he’s saying this dialogue in five ways. It was a very global story and when we made it for India, we realized this is a story that encompasses a lot more of the country. We all had coffee together and I have that photograph with me from the 1st of February last year, and I said, ‘They look like the Avengers.’ We began talking with Disney, I also spoke to my dad who wrote the original book obviously. I didn’t actually decide to do this, some minds in Disney, some sitting in London, decided to do this.

Will audiences even be interested in returning to the series in three months? The character’s portrayal as a perpetually predatory gay man is objectively problematic, especially when this is the sole trait that the character has been given. Shaan is motivated to spy on Shelly not because he’s overly patriotic, but because he feels guilty about not saving the girl in episode one; Shelly, on the other hand, feels he is indebted to Shaan for heroically rescuing Taha from the kidnappers. Roy Kapur, on the other hand, is disarmingly efficient in the lead role. To its credit, however, the show avoids making the very desi mistake of speaking down to the audience. Strong performances and an admittedly engaging plot ensure that The Night Manager finds a spot at the top of Hotstar’s heap of Hindi-language remakes.

Anil Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur's The Night Manager review (Firstpost)

An official Indian remake of the hit British series by the same name, the two actors who stole our hearts were Aditya Roy Kapur and Tillotoma Shome.

The Night Manager back then got nominated for thirty-six awards, of which it won eleven, including two Primetime Emmy Awards (for director Susanne Bier and music composer Victor Reyes) and three Golden Globe Awards (for Tom Hiddleston, Olivia Colman, and Hugh Laurie). Anil Kapoor plays the role of actor Hugh Laurie and Aditya Roy Kapur takes up the role originally played by Tom Hiddleston. Two powerhouses, two different sides, one massive clash – witness loggerheads Shelly Rungta and Shantanu Sengupta get into the cinematic showdown of the year! The series is an official Hindi adaptation of John le Carre’s novel of the same name and is produced by The Ink Factory and Banijay Asia, as well as the official Hindi remake of the British TV series based on the same. He goes through different moods, his relationship with the child bride of another arms dealer from Bangladesh and later with the son of Shelley Rungta shows his attachment towards kids. No beating around the bush either. The most unpredictable character with different emotions is that of Aditya Roy Kapur and to understand what is playing in his mind is difficult. The spy thriller is engaging and takes you through the different dark secrets in the lives of arm dealers. Saswata Chatterjee, our very own Bob’s performance was decent and as for Anil Kapoor playing the villain, Shelly Rungta, the arms dealer in the disguise of a businessman was convincing. The original British series, The Night Manager was released in 2016 and starred Tom Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie, Olivia Colman, and Elizabeth Debicki in lead roles. The show keeps the audiences on the edge of the seats. Kapoor’s performance was predictable and there was no newness in it.

The series does not do justice to her craft, reducing her to just another good-looking diva in the series. The actor plays the role of Brij, a gay businessman with an eye for details. The series allows Aditya to present a potpourri of shades. The series is divided into two parts, with the first releasing this weekend and the second releasing in June this year. The person he is trying to save dies in front of him and he stands there in shock, grief taking over and a sense of helplessness starting to cover his face. The Night Manager Review: There comes a scene in the final few moments of the first episode of The Night Manager when you watch Aditya Roy Kapur’s character Shaan realises a grave mistake he’s made and he runs to make amends but it’s too late.

The adaptation allows Aditya Roy Kapur to be himself. That works to his advantage.

That tends to undermine the show all right but it does not knock it out of its socket. Tillotama Shome and Saswata Chatterjee make full use of the room they have to convey a range of shades. Shaan turns to a friend in the Indian high commission in Bangladesh for assistance to help the girl escape. Because this version of the series takes four episodes to portray what was packed into three in the 2016 British production, it ends at a point where a great deal still remains to be unpacked. A tweak in the plot allows Shaan and Shelly's paths to cross pretty early and provide the backdrop for their second encounter two years later in a hotel in Shimla, replacing Zermatt, Switzerland. Much earlier, a 14-year-old bride of a Bangladeshi tycoon seeks the help of Shaan, the night manager at Dhaka's Orient Pearl Hotel. The matter soon blows up into a full-fledged crisis when Lipika hatches her own secret plan to help the child bride. With the aid of secret agent Lipika Saikia Rao (Tillotama Shome in the role that Olivia Colman made her own), Shaan sets out to bring down an evil business empire built on war, chaos and death. There is obviously going to be much more of the two adversaries as they square off in the next part of The Night Manager, due to land in our midst in June. Going with the flow, the lead actor fleshes out an emotionally stricken and morally agitated man who does not exactly wear his heart on his sleeve. The Disney+Hotstar show struggles to meet the high expectations set by the original show. But the adaptation allows him to be himself.

This Hindi adaptation of a BBC series based on a John le Carré novel is anchored by a compelling turn by Anil Kapoor.

A hotel’s night manager in a hotel is recruited by the secret service to work as a spy and assist in the operation. In 2016, the BBC televised a six-part serialisation of the novel. John le Carré’s novel The Night Manager was published in 1993.

Evidently, The Night Manager has a lot of managing – of expectations – left to do. It’s a conflict similar to that of the Netflix series , a crime drama that doubles up as an indictment of the very law enforcement system that makes a woman constable go undercover only for her to cross over to the dark side. The effect has already been diluted by Shelly’s clips on a news channel early on, and a sinister phone-call he makes to his man in Dhaka. You’re supposed to go with the flow of a show like The Night Manager, but that flow needs to be earned. The loss doesn’t seem numbing enough to set Shaan on the path of no return. However, the problem is that Shaan’s sudden protectiveness of Safina feels inorganic and also blunts the edges of his character. As a protagonist with multiple pasts and no past – as someone whose blankness is supposed to be a mystery – Roy Kapur looks the part. He is good with guests because it allows him to flee the agonies of being himself. She is sick of jumping the procedural hoops, which is why she is prone to crossing the line in pursuit of Shelly. But there’s a hollowness – a social anonymity – to the plottings that robs the narrative of any roots, which in turn makes its world hard to root for. For those who’ve seen the Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie-starrer – one I’m not a huge fan of, but the series is undeniably a stirring thirst-trap of a production – this version might come across as little more than a faithful Hindi dub. That’s because richness – luxury hotels, island resorts and the wealthy life of a billionaire criminal – is a universal language unbound by borders.

Much of The Night Manager revolves around Aditya and later Tillotama as they try to make a case against Shelly, even hiding their work from other fellow Indian intelligence agents. The actors are in fine form as their characters. The British series rounded out the narrative in six hour-long episodes, even with an ambiguous ending. A former soldier and later hotel employee has to infiltrate the organisation on a notorious arms deals in this Indian adaptation of John le Carre’s novel The Night Manager. Well, we'll know the conclusion in June 2023, when the story is finally concluded. Aditya Roy Kapur is aforementioned 'night manager' who gets unwillingly recruited into spying on Shailendra Rungta, the merchant of death.

The Night Manager Review: Anil Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur ... (India Today)

The Night Manager has its moments but falters mainly because of the mediocre sequence. The series is headlined by Anil Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur.

The Night Manager ends with a twist as Shelly makes Shaan a lucrative offer. The kidnapping sequence is perhaps the weakest of the lot. Her scenes with Aditya pack a punch mainly because of the tension between the characters. The Night Manager revolves around Shaan Senguta (Aditya Roy Kapur), an ex-navy Lieutenant, who works as the night manager of a hotel. The series is headlined by Anil Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapur. That said, it is not a wasted effort by any stretch of the imagination.

The fact that this is the first season and a show that is yet to build a fan base for itself. That the part one chooses to keep a lot stored for the second. There is nothing that creates a visible villain out of him once he is in the frame. She wears all the wrong clothes on the wrong occasions and that is possibly being used as a trait for her part if I am not reading too much between the lines. This is a great casting choice because Aditya’s charm does work in the favour of the narrative in more ways than one. Whatever evil you see of him in the first part of season one is on two phone calls. The writers take a lot of efforts to blend this storyline into the soil in which the show is set in. These are an interesting set of characters and the teams do a great job at casting them. The writing connects this fictional story to the unfortunate Rohingya genocide that in turn led to unrest in Bangladesh. It is all in how the filmmakers introduce their characters when it comes to projects about some secret agent who does a job that is far away from the line of work he belongs to and gradually comes back to his day job, that is to fight the bad men. At the core of it, the show is a thrilling espionage that is about hunting down a white-collared baddie who deals illegal arms to war-torn countries. To answer your question, while it takes the blueprint of the British show, Shridhar Raghavan’s (Pathaan) adaptation with Sandeep Modi’s help manages to give it a new vibe.

It is left to Saswata Chatterjee and Tillotama Shome to chew up their scenes -- he is equal part clown and guard; she has the over-eagerness of a woman, who has to crash the boys' club everyday to eat at their table. Shaan Sengupta (Aditya Roy Kapur), who is the night manager in a luxurious hotel, is caught up in the dangerous intrigue, involving an Indian arms dealer, Shailendra 'Shelley' Rungta (Anil Kapoor), and the Indian intelligence elite, with obviously corrupt officers, reluctant to nab him. This one is a bare bones version of the original, which works up to a point but without Le Carré's careful plotting with political details and nasty inter-agency rivalry in the UK, it is reduced to just another thriller about a man going undercover in a criminal network.
