यह महत्वपूर्ण इसलिए भी है कि क्योंकि पारंपरिक प्रतिद्वंद्वियों कांग्रेस और वाम दलों ने राज्य की 60 सदस्यीय विधानसभा के चुनाव में भाजपा को चुनौती देने के लिए पहली बार हाथ मिलाया है. राष्ट्रीय दलों के बीच इस लड़ाई में प्रद्योत देबबर्मा के नेतृत्व वाला तीपरा मोथा भी त्रिपुरा में है जो एक प्रदेश की राजनीति में एक प्रभावी ताकत के रूप में उभरा है। जनजातीय आबादी के एक बड़े हिस्से के बीच इसके प्रभाव ने पारंपरिक पार्टियों को परेशान किया है. इसके संस्थापक देबबर्मा पूर्ववर्ती शाही परिवार के वंशज हैं और राज्य की जनजातीय आबादी में उनका खासा प्रभाव माना जाता है. नगालैंड में 13 लाख से अधिक मतदाता हैं तथा 60 सदस्यीय विधानसभा की 59 सीटों के लिए चार महिलाओं एवं 19 निर्दलीय समेत 183 प्रत्याशी चुनाव मैदान में हैं. शुरुआती रुझानों के अनुसार मेघालय चुनाव में टीएमसी 2 सीटों पर आगे चल रही है. The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and BJP had a pre-poll alliance and contested the elections on a 40:20 seat sharing basis. The NDPP and BJP fought the election on a 40:20 seat sharing agreement. According to the latest counting trends shared by the Election Commission of India at 12.15 pm, the BJP Nagaland chief was leading Janata Dal (United) candidate J Lanu Longchar by 1,202 votes. The BJP was leading in 3 constituencies while the NDPP, led by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, had opened up a lead in 11 constituencies, as per the latest trends shared by the poll panel. Independents, NCP and NPP leading in two seats each in Nagaland. Hekhani Jakhalu on Thursday created history by becoming the first woman to be elected to the Nagaland Assembly. Together, the two parties have secured 33 seats in the 60-member Nagaland assembly. Nagaland has not elected any women legislators to the 60-member House since it got statehood in 1963. History was scripted in Nagaland on Thursday when the state elected its first women legislators in its 60 years of statehood. The Naga Peoples Front has won one seat and is leading on another. Nagaland has made elaborate security arrangements with a three-tier cordoning system for counting of EVMs across the headquarters of 16 election districts. According to the latest trends shared by the Election Commission at 4.45pm, BJP has won 12 seats while NDPP bagged 22 seats and is leading on 3 seats.
