Huge turnout expected for Attukal Pongala today (Times of India)

Thiruvananthapuram: Women devotees started flocking to the city ahead of Attukal Pongala, which will be held on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the city corporation will deploy special teams to collect the bricks left after the ritual. The beneficiaries of bricks shall be selected under the LIFE Housing Mission. The trust has informed that 300 priests will be specially deputed for the sanctification of Pongala pots. The noon ritual will be held at 2.30pm followed by sanctification of Pongala and ‘deeparadhana’. Thiruvananthapuram: Women devotees started flocking to the city ahead of Attukal Pongala, which will be held on Tuesday. Tantri Parameswaran Vasudevan Bhattathiripadu will light the lamp from the sanctum sanctorum and hand it over to the priest Brahmasree P Kesavan Namboothiri.

According to officials, the entire city will be cleaned up within a few hours after the pongala. IMA and private hospitals have agreed to provide around 20 ambulances on the pongala day,” the official said. “We have given instruction for those doing ‘annadanam’ to avoid stocking food for long hours and prepare it fresh for the devotees. THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Thousands of women devotees from all walks of life will take part in the Attukal pongala on Tuesday. The names and photos of the women having strong criminal antecedents were collected by the Special Branch.

Close to 75 cops, both men, and women have been deployed in plainclothes to monitor the crowd, while spotters from Tamil Nadu police have also been deployed to identify miscreants from that state. “We verified the past criminal records and also sought the help of the Tamil Nadu police to prepare the details of the history sheeters.All these people have strong criminal antecedents, including chain snatching and theft. The police officials placed on duty near Attukal temple and its premises have also been provided photo albums to locate such people if they turn up in the city on the pretext of attending the Pongala festival.
