The Indian Space agency ISRO carried out two launches of its largest and heaviest rocket, in record time - on October 23, 2022, and on Sunday, March 26.
On the occasion of the completion of OneWeb's Gen1 constellation, Mittal said that India stepped up to help when the Bharti group and UK-govt backed company faced serious setbacks. Dr Somanath also said that the two commercial launches of LVM3 had only increased ISRO's confidence in their largest rocket, which is also meant to perform the Gaganyaan astronaut mission. We had to get ready with required approvals and the processes to enable such commercial missions", he said. SpaceX gave us three rockets (despite OneWeb being a competitor to Elon Musk's Starlink) and Prime Minister Modi recognised the moment and directed the entire Indian space ecosystem to step up and give two rockets to OneWeb and that has been a gamechanger for us," Mittal said. He expressed hope that India's ISRO would take up this opportunity to become a dominant competitor to SpaceX in the launch industry. "The six launches were contracted and fully paid for(and after cancellation) we are struggling to get the money back.
The launches not only established LVM3 as a commercial vehicle propelling ISRO's entry into the commercial heavier launch market, it also earned the agency ...
But it is not just the commercial arm, the revenue generated by the department has also increased. As per the report, revenue generated by NSIL has increased from R1,731 crores in 2021-22 to a projected R3,509 crores in 2023-24. The highest number of these commercial launches have been by companies from the United States. The government plans to increase this to 10% by 2030 through commercial launches by ISRO and launches offered by private companies like Skyroot and Agnikul that are in the process of developing their own launch vehicles. It has a low turn-around time of days and costs much less than the current workhorse PSLV. And, over the years, there has been an increase in funds that the space agency has generated.
The successful launch of 36 more OneWeb satellites aboard India's most powerful rocket Saturday brought the total number of OneWeb spacecraft in orbit to ...
An Indian GSLV Mk.3 rocket launched in October with 36 OneWeb satellites, and three SpaceX missions from Cape Canaveral using Falcon 9 rockets in December, January, and earlier in March added 120 more satellites to the fleet. The final launch of OneWeb’s first-generation network is planned for early May on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Space Force Base, California. Russia’s space agency refused to launch more missions for OneWeb after Western governments levied sanctions on Russia in response to the country’s invasion of Ukraine last year. “This launch is a very important milestone for ISRO as we demonstrated the successful launch of a second consecutive commercial payload of OneWeb,” said S. Amazon’s Kuiper constellation will launch its first prototype satellites later this year, with plans to deploy more than 3,200 satellites in the next few years. OneWeb also built replacements for the satellites confiscated by Russia. military tracking data confirmed the rocket placed the satellites into an on-target near-circular orbit with an altitude of about 380 miles (450 kilometers) and an inclination of 87.4 degrees to the equator. Once in their final orbit, the satellites will be ready to enter commercial service later this year. The mission was the penultimate launch for OneWeb’s first-generation satellite network, with another batch of spare spacecraft scheduled for launch on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket in May. The OneWeb satellites began separating from their dispenser on the GSLV’s upper stage at T+plus 19 minutes, 42 seconds. The rocket initially headed southeast over the Bay of Bengal, then turned south in a maneuver designed to avoid an overflight of Sri Lanka. The LVM3’s two core stage air-lit Vikas engines ignited about two minutes into the flight, and the burned-out boosters jettisoned to call into the sea.

Internet satellite company OneWeb is aiming to roll out coverage globally after successfully launching an additional 36 satellites Sunday.
The company, which is lossmaking, is currently generating revenue in the millions of dollars every month, according to Mittal. In July last year, it agreed a deal to combine with Eutelsat, the French satellite company. The company hopes to offer its clients worldwide coverage by the end of the year. The firm is up against some fierce competition. The rest will serve as spares that can step in, in case some other satellites on the network go rogue. The satellites launched 9 a.m.

NSIL, would like to thank M/s OneWeb for believing in our capabilities and giving us this important opportunity to undertake the mission. With this launch of LVM3, through the New Space India Ltd, ISRO is confident of handling many more such launches on demand for both LEO and GEO mission in the future. “I would like to thank colleagues, our partners, vendors, investors and customers who have realised the potential of OneWeb and made this launch possible. Somanath S, Secretary, Department of Space and Chairman, ISRO, commented: “This launch is very important milestone for ISRO as we demonstrated the successful launch of second consecutive commercial payload of OneWeb. “I am particularly proud that OneWeb has crossed the threshold to be able to provide its global coverage in India, a country whose ambitions in enhancing Space-based connectivity are being driven by New Space India and ISRO. This is OneWeb’s 18th launch, its third this year, bringing the total of OneWeb’s constellation to 618 satellites.

“Successful injection of 36 OneWeb Gen-1 satellites from UK by LVM3 today, is an extremely proud moment for NSIL and the entire ISRO fraternity. He said OneWeb had also expected Russia to be a sizable market for its broadband services before the war. The first mission in NSIL’s two-launch contract for OneWeb deployed 36 satellites Oct. Most of the satellites OneWeb has in LEO have already reached their final orbital positions using onboard propulsion, Mittal said. Eutelsat trades publicly on the Euronext Paris stock exchange and Mittal said the companies aim to decide a deal in “the coming months” to raise money by listing shares in OneWeb in the United Kingdom. Although OneWeb still needs to finish constructing ground stations, Mittal said its latest launch was the last “critical part” of OneWeb’s business strategy, and “signals the completion of our space program” for having enough satellites in LEO for global coverage. SpaceX is contracted to launch an as yet undetermined number of spare satellites for OneWeb in a rideshare mission Mittal said is slated for May or June.

Mittal said OneWeb is close to concluding its global merger with France’s Eutelsat. “Globally, there is no spectrum auction for satellite (services)… This, since satellite spectrum is a shared resource and required only in a few areas. Mittal said that OneWeb will be able to match mobile services rates of western countries but its tariffs can't be at par with the “extremely low” prices in India. The annual satellite broadband [revenue](/definition/revenue)opportunity is now around $1 billion, according to industry estimates.
Mittal said that the services will be affordable and at par with that of mobile rates if a community of 30-40 homes in a village use it.
But importantly, I think the prime minister of India recognised the moment and directed the entire space ecosystem in India to step up and give two rockets to OneWeb, that to my mind has been a game changer for us,” Mittal said. We are excited about the potential it holds and the positive impact it will have on our nation’s aspirations for digital transformation,” Bhatt said. “Airtel enterprise wing will be selling these services to enterprise customers.
