जागरण संवाददाता, गंगटोक। सिक्किम की राजधानी गंगटोक से नाथुला जाने वाले राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग 310 के जवाहर लाल नेहरू मार्ग (जेएनएम) पर मंगलवार सुबह 11 बजे भारी हिमस्खलन में दबकर सात पर्यटकों की मौत हो गई और 13 घायल हो गए हैं। घायलों को भारतीय सेना के अस्पताल में प्राथमिक उपचार के बाद गंगटोक के एसटीएनएम अस्पताल में भेजा गया है। प्रत्यक्षदर्शियों के मुताबिक, 15 माइल परिसर में बीआरओ के जवान सड़क से बर्फ साफ कर रहे थे। इसी बीच पर्यटक पहाड़ में जमी बर्फ में खेलने और फोटो खिंचवाने लगे। सभी अलग-अलग जगह जाकर फोटो खिंचवा रहे थे। वहां तैनात सिक्किम पुलिस और बीआरओ के जवानों ने इन पर्यटकों को वहां खेलने कूदने और फोटो खिंचवाने से रोकने की कोशिश की। जवान इन सभी को वहां से जाने के लिए कह ही रहे थे कि इसी दौरान हिमस्खलन हो गया। जब तक ये सभी कुछ समझ पाते तब तक हादसा हो गया और ये पर्यटक उसकी चपेट में आ गए। Sikkim Avalanche latest Updates सिक्किम की राजधानी गंगटोक से नाथुला जाने वाले राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग 310 के जवाहर लाल नेहरू मार्ग (जेएनएम) पर मंगलवार सुबह 11 बजे भारी हिमस्खलन में दबकर सात पर्यटकों की मौत हो गई और 13 घायल हो गए हैं।

Seven tourists were killed and 13 others injured in a major avalanche in India's northeastern state of Sikkim, local police said Tuesday.

Another 350 tourists and 80 vehicles were rescued after roads were cleared of snow, said the army. The avalanche took place near the Nathu La mountain pass and struck a road connecting Nathu La and the state capital Gangtok. Seven tourists were killed and 13 others injured in a major avalanche in India’s northeastern state of Sikkim, local police said Tuesday.

Rescue efforts were still underway hours after the disaster, with an unknown number of people still feared trapped under the snow.

More than 6,000 people were killed, left missing or presumed dead in 2013 when heavy monsoon rains triggered massive flooding in the same region. Police and other emergency workers launched a rescue operation soon after and managed to save about 22 people, including six who were pulled up from a deep valley they had been swept into. The avalanche struck on Jawaharlal Nehru Road, near Nathula Pass, a popular tourist destination on the border with China known for its stunning Himalayan vistas.

The incident happened on a road 14th mile on Jawaharlal Nehru road connecting Gangtok with Nathula at the India-China border.

“My sincerest condolences to the families of those who have lost their lives in the tragic avalanche in Sikkim. I pray for the speedy recovery of those injured”, Shah wrote in his official Twitter account. Accordingly, the rescue and search operations have been called off by the district administration due to fear of more slides. “Distressed by the avalanche in Sikkim.
