Turkey is facing a wave of violence as mobs armed with fists and knives target Syrian refugees in the country. The tensions are particularly high in parts of northern Syria under Turkish control, where confrontations with Turkish soldiers have erupted, including pelting their vehicles with stones. The situation intensified with violent protests, resulting in the detention of around 475 individuals after two nights of unrest aimed at the Syrian population in Turkey. Attacks on Syrian shops and cars in central Turkey led to more than 470 arrests, with videos circulating on social media depicting the arson of a grocery store. In response to the escalating violence, Turkey closed several border crossings into northwest Syria following clashes between Turkish troops and angry Syrians protesting against the violence. The main border crossings were shut down after Turkish soldiers were fired upon by Syrians expressing their frustration.
