Crafting a Greener Navaratri: When School Kids Become Eco-Warriors!

Chennai - Eco-friendly Festival - Gandhal Geet - High Tea - Navaratri - Sundals - TGSB School - Women Empowerment

Discover how TGSB school students are bringing sustainability into the festive spirit of Navaratri!

At TGSB school, the air is buzzing with creativity and enthusiasm as students from classes 3 to 9 partake in an eco-friendly initiative for the Navaratri festival. Over the past 15 days, these young artists have been diligently crafting beautiful Gombes representing Durga, Seetha, Rama, and Ravana. This initiative not only hones their artistic skills but also instills a sense of responsibility towards the environment, making it a wholesome educational experience.

Using materials that are biodegradable and recycled, the students are tapping into their imaginative resources to create stunning representations of iconic figures from Indian mythology. The school has provided them with workshops that focus on the importance of sustainability in celebration, teaching them how they can enjoy festivals without harming the planet. These Gombes are not just decor; they are symbols of a conscious effort to blend tradition with modern environmental concerns.

The joyous effort extends beyond just crafting; it also serves as a community-building exercise, where students collaborate in larger groups, exchange ideas, and learn more about their cultural heritage. Teachers have witnessed incredible bonding moments as students narrate tales from the Ramayana and Mahabharata while working together, making the educational experience as enriching as the cultural one.

As the festival approaches, these homemade Gombes will be showcased during a special assembly, where parents and teachers can admire the children’s hard work and creativity. This innovative approach is a stepping stone towards fostering a generation that cares more about the environment while celebrating their culture with pride.

Interestingly, Navaratri, celebrated for nine nights, symbolizes the victory of good over evil, and students taking this initiative are already paving the path to a greener future! According to Hindu tradition, the festival is also a time for community and family gatherings, making it essential to merge festivities with environmental consciousness.

Moreover, studies show that engaging children in craft projects can significantly enhance their cognitive skills, problem-solving abilities, and creativity. So, as TGSB school crafts a greener Navaratri, they are not just celebrating the festival; they’re nurturing the minds of the future!
